Coulter, James Jonathon
1948 - 2017
James Jonathon Coulter (Jon in civilian life, Jim in the Army), age 69, passed away peacefully at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Columbus, OH on December 30, 2017. Born in Los Angeles, CA on April 1, 1948 he was preceded in death by his parents Robert E. Coulter and Mary D. Coulter, his sister Jennifer Coulter Kramer, sister-in-law Sandra Crawford Coulter and by all three of his children Robert Coulter, Maija Coulter Akerlund and Erin Coulter Canini. He graduated from Whetstone High School in 1966 and entered the US Army in 1967, retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 1987. Jon was a devoted father and grandfather who had a life-long passion for collecting and came to Jesus late in life, though he was a past member of Indianola and Overbrook Presbyterian Churches. He is survived by his brothers. Joseph M. Coulter of Columbus, OH, and Colonel (USAF Ret.) Robert (Anne) Coulter of Gainesville, VA; his brother-in-law. John Kramer; and daughter-in-law, Christine Coulter; his sons-in-law, Todd Akerlund of Arlington, TX, and Andy Canini of Canal Winchester, OH; six grandchildren, Robert and Amanda Coulter, Michael and Sam Canini, and Kirsten and Zachary Ackerlund; and his first wife, Lari. A poet once wrote, "God saw the road was getting rough, the hills hard to climb. He gently closed his weary eyes and whispered, 'Peace be thine'." Family will receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 6-7 pm with a memorial service immediately following at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, OH 43231.
