Sr. Malcolm was not only a great math teacher she was someone who cared about her students and took the time to talk with them and give them guidance. I am grateful she was my teacher.

Sister Laurene, or Sister Mary Malcolm as she was known to the Class of 1962 at Bishop Watterson, was one of the greatest teachers of our high-school years. In my case, until I was privileged to take her Geometry class, nothing about mathematics registered with me in any form. Under her tutelage, coupled with her rigorous tests and her strict classroom discipline, I finally understood the logical nature of mathematics. A few years later, when I taught at Watterson and got to know her as a colleague, I saw first-hand how caring and supportive she was with all of her students. I saw too that she had a finely-tuned sense of humor, and laughed easily and heartily. In the ensuing years, her features and appearance seemed ageless--which makes it difficult to accept that she is no longer with us. But we are assured that her profound faith, her lifetime of prayer and devotion, and the solemn vows she took as a Dominican, glow radiantly in the perpetual light that now shines upon her.

To my dear and wonderful high school math teacher who taught me to love math. May you enjoy the everlasting light of God's eternal love.

Sister Malcolm was the most outstanding nun, teacher, and mentor I had during my 12 years of Catholic education. She gave me the best educational foundation to succeed after high school. I earned a BA and a MBA and contribute my success to her teaching me to think and never give up. She cared about your mind and your development.
