Dear Jipp Family,
I am deeply grieved to hear that Les has passed away. I remember so many hours spent with Leslie and Lois, and the last time we dined together here in New Delhi when Les had come for Peter and Priya's wedding. He was a friend and host to my nephew Vittal who went to study at Carnegie Mellon, and our extended family was enriched by our friendship over the years. We will miss him - and Lois - but memories are warm and indelible.

I was saddened to hear of the death of my cousin Lester. My deepest condolences go out to his children, grandchildren and siblings. Being able to reconnect with Les and Lois as an adult when I was frequently travelling to Columbus was a great joy in my life. As a child, I spent nearly as much time with Lesters parents as I did my own grandparents. It was always great when the Jipp cousins would make a trip out to Iowa and we could get together briefly. The thoughts and prayers of the Runge family go out to all of you.

I recently met Les, at his son home in Chicago and hit it off. From that Les and I begin e-mailing to exchange ideas on various of civic topic. In this very short while I grew a fondness toward him. He was very passion about up grading our education system here in Columbus. I glad I had the opportunity to met him and wishes that there were more time to learn from him. Ian, You are wonderful and so is you Aunt's and Uncle that I met at your home.

In our first visit to Columbus,
On the well laid lane,
Limed with broad day light,
A shop with Antiques,
Displayed a stained glass lamp.
Rare was the craftsmanship,
Who had worked flower petals,
Red, green, white and yellow,
Assembled in a shape cylindrical,
Its vibration and ours were symmetrical!
For it was meant only for us!
It is now in the hearth of our Home,
It fills with the spirit of splendor,
It glows with cheers of Joy!

Least did we know then,
that we had picked another Antique!
The Creators craftsmanship was even more rare and unique,
He, Lester, whose stature,
Changed as per the nature,
As per the environs norms,
He could assume form,
As big as a giant,
Or be small as a toy,
He fitted himself like a piece of puzzle,
In every body's life,
He came in, noticed or unnoticed,
Shared his favourite rare books,
Talked on issues environment, education, or pollution.

He was at ease in Bangalore, Atlanta or in Washington,
As he was at Home in Columbus.
No disease could touch him,
He knew how to fix a screw,
A bolt, put things in its place.
He created a daring space,
For joy, robust strength for full life,
Moved east, west, south, north,
Travelling in a trailer,
Cycled in circles,
Directions came from within himself,
He out-grew himself!
He has now become an unique Antique.
By fitting in the jig-saw puzzle,
Perfectly by being plastic, in being formless,
Playing to the tune of creators game,
Well played! Lester!
You remain a Legendry Puzzle,
To us in an our riddle of Life,
Everliving in the hearth of our heart!

Mr.Jipp was a wonderful mentor and bridge for my eighth grade language arts students. He helped them learn to appreciate the seasoned wisdom and compassion of senior citizens and he made every visit to Wesley Glen a treasured one. -- (Worthingway MS)

I had the wonderful pleasure of sharing breakfast with Lester on July 5 when I visited Ian and Hye in Chicago. What a wonderful man! He made sure I knew there were things I could do to impact my community. I am praying for comfort to the family on the loss of their loved one.
