I knew Dr. Hurd from my days at Vail Deane, where her daughter and I developed a life long friendship. Because they were both named "Thelma" I used to lovingly call them Big Thelma and Little Thelma. Dr. Hurd was always such an inspiration to me. She was the epitome of grace and dignity and was one of the strongest people I know. My deepest sympathy to Little Thelma and family... your mom will be greatly missed!! xoxo

I had the pleasure of being a part of the John Marshall School number 20 under her leadership as a student graduating in the year of 1973, I would say she was one of the best principals that school ever encountered, my mom was the president of the PTA at that time as well, she just adored Patsy like you'll never know. she will be missed by many many people that just loved her, I had the pleasure of talking to her about less than 2 years ago, sending her a congratulations on retiring card, and just to reminisce a little bit about what took place in the past and where that school was going to for it's future, hopefully that future will continue with her legacy behind it. Mrs. Thelma C. Hurd, you will always be loved and missed in our hearts! congrats for getting promoted to heaven!

Dr. Hurd was a legendary administrator. Not only did she provide her students an optimal environment for learning, she provided her faculty with a clear vision for educational professionalism. She handled her position with the greatest amount of grace and poise. She had a sense of humor like no other! Under her supervision, John Marshall School remained hallowed ground. She provided the utmost professional training, by enforcing her "walking, talking and chalking"expectations. I will always credit her for establishing my firm belief that all children have the ability to learn. She was also a wonderful role model as a mother. Her daughter, Thelma, will continue her professional passion as her mother did in hers. Rest in peace, Dr. Hurd. Missions accomplished!

To the family of the great late Dr. Hurd, my sincere condolences. My mother, the late Earline Peeples-Cain worked with Dr. Hurd for many years at school 20 and she always had wonderful little anecdotes to tell about Dr. Hurd. May Dr. Hurd rest in peace and God bless you.
