Ben L. Thiel, 72, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Trinity Manor, Dodge City.
He was born January 13, 1942 at Zenda, Kansas, the son of Harold Henry and Viola Bell Martin Thiel. A Dodge City resident since 1974, moving from Hutchinson, he worked at OK Tire in Dodge City for over 30 years. He was an avid knife and toy car collector.
He served in the United States Army.
On November 28, 1970 he married Carol Samuel at Harper, Kansas.
Survivors include: his wife, Dodge City; 2 daughters, Tina Lynn Gil-Montes and husband Gil, Tallahassee, Florida and Trisha LaNette Ortiz, Dodge City; a brother, Harold Thiel, Hutchinson; 2 sisters, Carmen Ryan, Anthony, Kansas and Brenda Kilpatrick, Wichita; 9 grandchildren and a great grandchild expected this fall.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clayton.
Memorial service will 2:00 pm Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Rev. Richard Deimund officiating. There will be no public visitation, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Sunnyside Elementary School Library in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801. Condolences may be sent to www.zieglerfuneralchapel.com.
