Garbowski, Eugene E.

Eugene E. Garbowski, 74, of Brussels, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at his home.

He was born May 3, 1939, in Southampton, NY, the son of the late John E. and Anne B. (Dworakowski) Garbowski. Eugene graduated from Pierson High School in Sag Harbor, NY, on June 25, 1956. On December 10, 1977, he married Julia Lee Weber at their farm in Brussels, WI, which they named Sugar Mt. Farm. They grew flowers, fruits, and vegetables which were sold at their farm stand, the Sugar Mountain Farm Market on Hwy. 57 in Brussels, at the Sturgeon Bay Farmer's Market, other area markets, and grocery stores throughout northeast Wisconsin. Eugene was still farming and going to farmer's markets until his death.

Eugene enjoyed salt water fishing, and the ocean, he loved Florida and wintering there. He enjoyed working in his gardens, cooking, attending flea markets, writing and telling stories, reading, collecting antiques and farm equipment, keeping and raising tropical fish in his large tanks, and his beloved dog, Arlo.

Survivors include his wife, Julia; seven children, Lorilee (Christian) Mallet of Switzerland, John (Virginia) Garbowski of Hampton Bays, NY, Eugene (Jeanette) Garbowski of Frederick, MD, Edward Garbowski of East Hampton, NY, Carol (James) Williams of Southampton, NY, Rachael Garbowski of Austin, TX, Brent Garbowski of Chicago, IL; brother, Alexander (Audrey) Garbowski of Sag Harbor, NY; niece, Diane; nephew, Joseph; mother-in-law, Jean M. Weber of Brunswick, ME; two sisters-in-law, Karin (Peter) Sleggs of Toronto, Canada; nephew, Kian, Laurie (Fred) Taft of Georgetown, ME; nephew, Samuel.

There will be a memorial service for Eugene Garbowski at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 11a.m. followed by a light lunch at the church.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 10a.m. until the time of service.

So sorry I could not make it to the Memorial but, I want to thank you for the great picture of Gene. He is at peace after a fulfilling life. We will miss our great "neighbor."
