Dear Mrs. Brown,
I was in your classes at Uniondale High School. I learned so much from you that I continue to use to this day. Thank you for all that you taught me. I remember you with much kindness and gratitude.

My thoughts are prayers are with you and your family during this time of sadness. It is obvious that both you and your husband touched many lives and left a legacy to live on in others.
With love,
Laura Crowe (now Sanchez)

All our sympathies to the Brown family. I will always be grateful to have known Wesley and Crystal briefly in our water exercise class at the Martin Luther King pool. Also it was also a privilege and an honor to have Lt. Commander Brown generously give his time to share his story with the public at the Wheaton Library a few years ago. It was lovely to see him encourage young people there who were interested in entering the Naval Academy and to have him share his stories with all of us. Wesley will always be in our hearts. What a very special person. Our caring sympathy goes out to you, Crystal and to all of your family.

Mrs.Brown and Family,
I read of LCDR Wesley Brown's recent death and wish to send my sympathy to you on this loss. But what a legacy he has left behind for all of those who face the daily struggles and blows that life sometimes holds. He was truly a hero for all times.

Mrs. Brown and family. Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved . Lieutenant Commander Wesley Anthony Brown '49, CEC, USN (Ret.) was a true pioneer who forged ahead despite adversity and the difficult challenges of becoming the first African-American to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. This accomplishment was an inspiration to me when I was a midshipman, and, it demonstrated how important it was for me to strive for excellence and realize that failure was not an option. Commander Brown's career as a Naval Officer represented the embodiment of the U.S. Naval Academy's mission to develop leaders to assume the highest responsibilities of leadership, citizenship, and government. He set the bar for those of us minority midshipmen who followed him and for those to come in the future. He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.

Peace be with you and your family,

To the family of LT CDR Wesley Brown: My sympathy on the loss of a great man & trailblazer. I was honored that I had the opportunity to meet CDR Brown while working at the USNA Foundation. Hearing his story and knowing the internal strength he exhibited in order to graduate was inspiring. A reminder of what so many have endured in order for me and others to experience life with less difficulty & more opportunity today. He was a kindhearted man. I am glad he was able to see his story in print, speak to groups and see a building named in his honor at USNA while he was living. He left us with a great legacy.
