I am Alice's cousin, Ione Sjerven (married name Stuart.
Alice was 14 years older than me. I first met her in 1944, when she came to Vancouver, dressed in her military suit. She came to see my dad - her uncle - Willard (Bob) Sjerven and Aunt Bertha (my mom).
Alice was at my my first birthday party. I mentioned this to her several years back, asking if she remembered being there. All apologetic, she said, "No, I'm sorry, I don't remember.
I replied. That's okay Alice, I don't remember you being there either. But you were. We had a good laugh over that.
Alice always reminded me of Jane Powell. She laughed about that too.
Alice was sweet and gentle. That's how I always perceived her. With a smile that was contagious.
Life has a way of separating family and friends. I'm glad Alice and I kept touch for many years. Although distance kept us apart, she has always and will be in my heart. It's never easy losing someone we love. Fond memories is what makes life endurable for those left to grieve the loss.
I only came across this today, June 12, 2018. I'm glad I did. My kindest thoughts are with you.

My condolences to you, I have thought of you all several times over the years, I remember Glens kids and our duck pond. I don't know if you knew but Mom and I were celebrating my birthday at your house Sept.24 the day Dad passed, we were glad your Mom was not alone, what a wonderful lady. Also Alice was my idol.
Sincerely, Ruby Overland Swartz.
