Anthony (Anton) Perera Samarasinghe Jan10, 1935 - Feb 19, 2018 Loving husband of Beatrice Blossom nee Jayewardene, kind father of Anne-Marie, Shani Powell, Sonali Cull, Thushara, Tamara, and grandfather of Sierra. He lived a life of service to humanity - educating and changing many people's lives. In spite of very serious health trials since he was 12 years old, he achieved great heights in his education and career. His last days were spent fighting an aggressive form of cancer, finally succumbing after a challenging battle - at Northern Lights Regional Hospital in Fort McMurray. He will now rest in peace in Jesus' love and care. (Cremation will be done in Edmonton).

Anton, we still think of the way you would walk across the yard and fill the room with your presence. Always the first to lead the singing.

Sonali: miss your keen intellect and bright personality. Blessings

A year has gone by since Tony left this earth to join his Maker in Heaven. We all miss him as he was a very special man, a dear friend, a helper, advisor and a humanitarian. He was a man of integrity, honourable, compassionate and he made an impact on the lives of many. We miss him dearly. We loved Blossom, his wife and all the children Our sympathies to all.

And memories a lane
I would walk right up to Heaven

It is with a grieving heart that Eeshani and I received the sad news of the passing away of Anton.
We take this opportunity to write to you, Blossom, to express our deep sorrow in your bereavement, and also to offer our heartfelt sympathies to Anne-Marie, Shani, Sonali, Thushi and Tammy.

As a newly-married couple, we enjoyed the warm friendship and hospitality of both you and Aton, since 1979.
Many were the pleasant times we had spent with both of you, as well as Anne-Marie, Shani, Sonali, Thushi and Tammy,

Anton has been my friend, confidant, and guide, in Engineering enterprises I had undertaken, where his expertise in Financial Management, as well as his close relationships in the Financial Community, helped me immensely to establish my ventures in a sound footing.

Memories of his compassionate and warm friendship has enhanced my outlook to life, and shall always fondly remember him.

Affectionately, to Blossom, Anne-Marie, Shani, Sonali, Thushi and Tammy, we share your grief, and are always there for you.

Please accept my humble apologies for this belated sympathies, due to a patch of illness I am going through.

Joyce and I are deeply grieved that the world has lost a beautiful soul. We are one of the many who had the privilege of knowing him and moving closely with him and his family when they were in Edmonton.

When we met Anton and Blossom in the late seventies, we were impressed by their humility. Coming from an industrious family in Sri Lanka and having achieved great heights in his career, Anton never boasted of anything. In SriLanka some poor students were beneficiaries of his generosity that enabled them to go through college.

Not only did he love the Lord he also extended God's love to others through his actions. He was a man of integrity and faith, a quiet faith.

Tony had a lighter side to his personality. He loved to sing and was a live wire at any party. We remember him coming to our home many a time to have a sing-song which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Through all his life his focus was to help others and he gave of himself to others without reservation.

We will all miss him, but we know he is in a better place now.

Our condolences to Blossom and the children. May he Rest In Peace.

Chitra and I would like to convey our deepest sympathies to Blossom and Children. I met Anton in Sri Lanka and he was my mentor on computers and our knowledge on computers 50 years ago was almost nil.He was real gentleman, very quiet and an unassuming individual. Then it so happened we meet again in Edmonton Canada and what a coincidence. He was always a very good adviser and had an excellent knowledge on various topics and was very non judgmental. Sri Lankan community is definitely going to miss him. I am certain that he is in a good place now.

Anton, Blossom and their children were the first Sri Lankans we met in Edmonton in September 1976 That friendship we cherish so dearly. It culminated in many get-togethers and good times we had.

Anton was a man of integrity and wisdom. Always willing to help anyone seeking his advice. He was a gentle soul who never harmed a fellow human being with words or deeds.

The pinnacle of our friendship was a trip to Mexico via San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. What a trip it was.

He as a humble man. Never boasted of education and titles he has achieved. Neither did he talk about wealth he has amassed or his family connections.

Anton was a founding member of the Sri Lanka Canada Friendship Association of Edmonton and was elected the Treasurer at the inaugural meeting.

Although you are not with us anymore, we shall always remember you with fondness and affection.

May you rest in peace.

Our heartfelt condolences to Blossom and children.
Anton was my teacher and a family friend. My father introduced me to Anton in the late 60s as the role model of a professional accountant who was to be respected and admired. I have fond memories of going to the home of Blossom and Anton, both in Nawala and down Sumner Place, to receive his assistance in my preparation for my accounting examinations; on many occasions, I recall that he would have one of his daughters on his knee. About 10 years later, I immigrated to Canada and our paths crossed once more here in Edmonton where he was once again my mentor in my quest for employment.
Who can forget his infectious smile and laugh?
With fond memories.

I am proud to say that I have been a part of Anton's life, as a friend and mentor over many years.

As an Accountant with a background in industrial engineering he was one of the first to introduce mainframe computer technology to industry in Sri Lanka in the late 60s. Subsequently he established his own accounting practice under the name of Hulugalle Samarasinghe & Co while teaching computer science at the Institute of Chartered Accountants Sri Lanka.

Anton left Sri Lanka in the early 70s to work for the Commonwealth Secretariat and later emigrated to Canada in the late 70s to work for the City of Fort McMurray and the Auditor General's Department of the City of Edmonton.

After returning to Sri Lanka in 1992, he was involved in a number of humanitarian projects, establishing a school in Gampaha (Sri Lanka) and a facility for ex soldiers to manufacture artificial limbs.

He was a humanitarian and a good friend to all. May he rest in peace.

Our heartfelt, deepest sympathy to Blossom and children. When we were starting life in Canada and in remote place like Fort McMurray we became very good and sincere friends and still are. Tony had a heart of gold, always non judgmental of people and willing to guide and help them.
He used to treat and address my husband Theva as his younger brother. Blossom Is like my Older sister and I know we are all going to miss Tony. He is blessed to be with God and in peace.

I have fond childhood memories of Uncle Tony introducing me to computer programming on a TRS-80 and demonstrating his electric shaver. He was always a warm welcoming person, willing to give you his time and good advice. Our sincere condolences to Aunty Blossom, Anne-Marie, Shani, Sonali, Thushi and Tammy.

Our heartfelt condolences to Aunty Blossom, Anne-Marie, Shani, Sonali, Thushi and Tammy. We fondly remember Uncle Tony from those good ole Ft. Mac and Edmonton days of the 70's and 80's. Uncle Tony was highly intelligent and had remarkable knowledge about diverse topics. He was a lively personality. I remember him being quite a cheerful person. Mostly, I will always remember how he wanted to help others and advise others for betterment of their lives. When he talked about such goodwill, he would follow it up with action. Uncle Tony always made my parents, my brother and me to feel like family.

We will miss you much dad. You were so loving, caring, and embracing everyone. No prejudices. And no matter what people did to you, you always forgave. No grudges that you ever verbalized. This world will forever miss your adventurous spirit and can do attitude - most of all your caring, helpfulness, and love. I am so glad that Shani and Cyril (Dobbins) were there taking care of you your last years and most importantly to your last breath. We love you much.
