Dear Julie and Family

Kathy and I were so sorry to hear of our dear friend's passing and were so sorry to be out of town for the service.
Barry was a mentor to me in my career teaching me patience, critical thinking and of course, reality. I will remember fondly our times together both in business and our numerous fun outings during the Triumph days.
Barry was always a stabilizing influence in our company and his contributions to it's success can not be over emphasized.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and I am grateful for having known him.

Thinking of you all.

My condolences to Julie and her family. I go back with Barrie to the late fifties at the Zeta Psi fraternity and the U of A. He was a true gentleman who was respected by everyone at all times. A fine man.

I first met Barrie when he worked with my father, Gordon Sawyer, at Bluesky Petroleum and later Ricinus Resources. Barrie and my Dad became very good friends and it was easy to see why. Barry was a very smart and articulate geologist, but he was also a genuine nice guy that everyone liked to be around. Barrie had a great sense of humor and he was always searching for ways to make you smile with his unmistakable and infectious laugh. I don't know how Dad and Barrie ever got any work done, but they must have done something right, because Ricinus became very successful before the company was eventually sold to Stampeder Resources.

Later in my oil & gas career, I joined Triumph Energy where Barrie was one of our directors. I was very happy to see that Barrie hadn't changed a bit, even though the company was experiencing some very tough times, much like oil and gas companies are today. Despite the challenges, Barrie was always a long term thinker and the voice of reason during Board meetings, because he could see the underlying value of the company, its employees and he did not want to sell the company while others did in a down market. With some drilling success and Barrie's support, Triumph was sold 3 years later for triple the stock price of when I joined the company. It turned out that Barrie was right all along, as he usually was and there are many people who owe him thanks. I am one of them and I will miss him.
