Janice CLINE Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Dec. 4, 2012.

CLINE, Janice Lynn (nee Skuba)
May 30, 1957 – November 28, 2012
On November 28, Janice Lynn Cline passed away peacefully in her sleep following a courageous battle with cancer.
In her final weeks Jan found herself uplifted by the love of friends and family both near and far. Although taken too soon, she lived life to the fullest and was happy and content, sharing her life adventure with Robin, her husband and best friend of 31 years, and her three beautiful daughters Julia, Patricia and Lindsay. Also left to lovingly remember Jan are her parents, Dr. Michael and Olga Skuba, and sisters Sharon (Hank) Hoekstra; Arlene (Nigel) Bowles; and Val (Jeff) Stobbe. Jan will be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in the United States and Australia and by her dear friends.
After graduation from the University of Alberta in 1979 with a BSc in Pharmacy, Jan established Village IDA Pharmacy. Her focus was providing professional, personal care to her many loyal customers and in that respect she was never one to disappoint. She will be missed by the entire Village IDA family, colleagues and customers. Jan will be remembered for her beautiful smile and big heart. She always put others before herself, calling herself a "chronic volunteer". She touched everyone around her with her care and compassion.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311-91 Street NW, Edmonton, AB. A Viewing will also be held one hour prior to the Funeral Service which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the First Mennonite Church, 3650 91 Street NW, Edmonton, AB with cremation to follow. Donations can be made in Jan's honor to the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation, 1191 Maynard Rd, Cheboygan, MI 49721 or online at

I first met Janice at the Knottwood Playschool where as you can imagine she was "volunteer & friend extradronaire". Janice will always be remembered for the energy she brought into the room. Her love and loyality to her family, her friends, her business and her community were evident in everything she did. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Janice. She was a role model in values and ethics and always led with those in mind. Although her suffering is over, there are not enough words to express what a terrible loss this is. My gratitude goes out to those that cared so lovingly for Janice over the past year, as I know that this has worn on you as well. I hold wonderful memories of Janice close to my heart. As your family grieves, may you find comfort in all those wonderful memories that Janice has left behind for you to cherish. Janice,.....until we meet again, I will be watching for the "First Ever Fundraiser Held In Heaven" as I am sure that you have already signed up on the committee. I will miss you, my friend.

My deepest condolences go out to the entire family of Janice especially Robin, Julie, Patti and Lindsay. I remember Janice as the most generous, kind and compassionate woman. She was always smiling and I loved her bubbly personality. Her love for her family was unconditional.

She always comforted me and even cried one time with me whenever I missed my children. Every time we talked about my family back home she would always assured me that we will be together soon. She showed and made me feel that I was part of their family.
I will always treasure the time I spent with you and your family and I will never forget how blessed I am to have you as my first employer here in Canada for 6 years. You were the greatest employer that any employee could ever ask for. I learned so much from you, Janice. My heart hurts so much and is in deep of sadness but I know you are in a better place now. I will be forever grateful that once in my life I met a wonderful woman. She will be greatly missed but never be forgotten. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as well as Robin, Julie, Patti and Lindsay.

I am so sorry for your loss. Janice was a wonderful person, so kind and helpful. She would light up a room when she entered with that happy smile of hers and her great sense of humor. No task was too small or too large if someone needed help. She loved people and they certainly loved her but most of all she loved her family and spoke of you often when we were together. There was no doubt you were the most important thing in her life. Friday nights were a commitment to her and she looked forward to the family get togethers. Jan lived life to the fullest giving her adventurous spirit free rein and took delight in everything she did. Jan's leaving is such a great loss to her family, friends and all who knew her. I'm so sorry for the grief you are feeling and hope you are able to help each other through this difficult and very sad time. You are part of one of the closest families I know and will be able to support each other. I am thankful that I knew Janice and grateful for the time and memories we were able to share together.

My thoughts are with you all at this time and hope you are able to find some peace through your grief. May you find comfort in the memories you were able to share and keep forever.

I am so very sorry for this loss and the pain and grief that this brings to all of Janice's close family.

Janice is a beautiful women with a wonderful spirit and legacy that none who knew her could possibly forget.

She made our world a better place to live.

I was honored to be her Brother-in-law and to have shared some time together here.

Although we feel separated from her now, our faith assures us that in God's time we will be joyfully reunited without the burdens of pain and loss and suffering. I love you my sister Janice and I look forward to the day when we are all reunited with you and all of our loved ones.

God Bless Janice Cline and all of her family.

PSALM 23; a psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

My sincere condolences to the family.
I did not know her but I think that there is a good possibility that her children and grandchildren, through her husband, may have Loyalist ancestry. There are several Cline men and a woman listed in the Directory of the Dominion website of the United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada. There is a branch in Edmonton.
Best wishes to the family.

A woman after my own heart, Jan was clearly dedicated to the well-being of her family and patients. She was always smiling and sharing her warmth. She was always energetic and compassionate. I knew her only from a distance and appreciate that she welcomed me to her. The legacy of someone with this heart space has so gifted the world with her love. Thank you to her family for sharing that with me. I am relieved her suffering is over and I know you all will miss her dearly but know that she will forever be in our hearts and her teaching and role modeling is ours. How blessed you have been to have such a great person for so long in your life. I told Trudy, when Beth died that I lost a parent when I was six. So to be able to know her for longer was such a treasure. We are not promised long life with no suffering but we can use Jan's example of how to make the most of what he were given. You will be in my thoughts and are welcome to join me in Colorado for healing and hot tea anytime. Love, Marta

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Janice's family. Janice was a dear friend and confident over the years we were privileged to have known her. Her wonderful smile and personality will be sorely missed by the Pratt family.

December 4, 2012

My initial shock in learning of Jan's diagnosis was immediately drowned in sadness. While I met her as my pharmacist, it did not take long before she became a true friend; exchanging stories, jokes, and updating the goings on of our daily lives.

I suspect I was not the only one she touched in this way. I will truly miss her presence. Jan's compassion, quirky sense of humour, and positive approach to life was second to none; It was why it was so easy to love her. I have so missed our regular chats and exchanges on the internet.

For as sad as I am feeling, I grieve too for her husband, three daughters, and her extended family and friends. She spoke of you often and cherished every one of you. Please find comfort in knowing you were blessed to be a part of her precious life and her caring spirit, and you are not alone in your sadness, and most important, she will continue to watch over you each and everyday.

With sadness, I say good bye for now,
but know, you live on in my heart and I will LOVE you forever... ~m
