GEDDIS, Gladys
Gladys Eva Geddis, age 96, passed away peacefully at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie, BC in the early morning hours on January 11, 2018.
Gladys was born and raised in Ryley, AB, the daughter of Clayton and Doris McLennan. She received her teaching certificate at Normal School in Edmonton in 1943, and taught at schools in rural Alberta and Calgary.
Gladys married her childhood sweetheart, James Geddis, on January 23, 1946 in Ryley following his return from service with the Canadian Forces in WWII. She supported Jim's career with the Canadian Pacific Railway, living and raising her children in many locations across Canada. They were married for 61 wonderful years. Her husband preceded her in death on January 22, 2007.
Gladys was an avid golfer. She won Club Championships in Nelson, BC and Moose Jaw, SK. Curling was another passion in her life. She skipped teams in various cities across the country.
She had a terrific sense of humour and laughed heartily, causing others to laugh with her. Gladys had an enthusiastic zest for life that was infectious, inspiring her children and grandchildren to also live life to its fullest.
Gladys is survived by her children, Greg (Lynda) of Prince Edward, ON and Rod (Jackie) Geddis of Fernie, BC, 5 loving grandchildren: Joanne (Allen), Jeff (Ali), Shandy (Dan), Eli (Sam), and Brylee (Tyler), and 6 loving great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Ruby Sears of Tofield, AB and her sister-in-law, Rose McLennan of Leduc, AB. She will be dearly missed by all. She was also predeceased by brothers William, Donald, and Lloyd and her sister Jean.
Gladys lived happily at Rocky Mountain Village from 2009 until she passed away. Special thanks from her family to all the staff at Rocky Mountain for taking kind care of her over those years.
A Celebration of Life will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Rocky Mountain Village 55 Cokato Road Fernie, BC V0B 1M4.
