KOSZARYCZ, Halyna
January 25, 1930 – March 10, 2018
It is with great sadness we say goodbye to Halyna Koszarycz who passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the age of 88 years.
Halyna Koszarycz (Czyhrynciw), was born in 1930, in Uman, Ukraine. Displaced from their homeland, the family emigrated, landing in Caracas, Venezuela as political refugees in 1948. Her marriage to Bogdan Koszarycz (1949), forged the new family with the birth of Ludmila and Roman in their immigrant community. In 1965, the Koszarycz family moved to Montreal to rejoin a larger Ukrainian community. Longtime members of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Church, PLAST, and the Ukrainian National Federation (UNO), with her husband, Halyna was mission driven in the patriotic community, taking on executive positions, teaching Ukrainian school, and completing her BFA at Montreal's Concordia University in 1987. Halyna and Bogdan moved to Alberta in 1987 to join their children and grandchildren. Bogdan's passing in 1988 created a huge void in her life, whereupon she made many new friends in the Ukrainian community, both in Edmonton and Calgary. Her signature artistry led to 45 group exhibits, and 18 individual exhibitions across Canada, as recently as January 2018 in Edmonton. She will be sorely missed by her daughter Ludmila, son Roman, daughter-in-law Anna-Marie, grandchildren Larisa (Sebastian Lindner) Tatiana (Brad Young) and her many dear friends.
