First I would like to give my condolences to Sonny's wife and family, only you know how much he meant to you and the depth of the loss you feel now.

I met Sonny in medical school and I am glad that I could call him a friend. To me, Sonny was one of those 'larger than life' people who commanded attention just by his presence, but he never sought the limelight. He had an incredible sense of humor and had the ability to make everyone laugh, whether it be what he said or did that everyone could see or hear, but often even more were the "one liners" that he would quietly say to his friends close enough to be in 'ear shot'.

He loved to shoot hoops at the gym at the Royal Alex hospital beside the lounge where we would hang out as student interns. I'd laugh as he'd joke around and goof off but I didn't take him up on his offer to play more than maybe 1 time (& he handily won).

Even in the face of his debilitating illness he kept his humor and lost non of his quick wit or intelligence. I miss him cracking a joke, reminiscing about our shared time in paediatrics or internal medicine, and him calling me "Toddler" in a goofy voice.

To his children: know that your dad was well-respected and loved by many and will be sorely missed. There are only a few people that you will meet in life that leave an indelible mark, and your dad definitely was one of them.

I miss you already Sonny, rest in peace my friend.
