I am deeply saddened to hear of Hugh's passing. To his family and loved ones — please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

I met Hugh in 2011 in my first few weeks of law school. I was fortunate in being paired up with him through the Canadian Bar Association. He was my law mentor, and every other month or so we had the opportunity to meet up on campus for a coffee. We spent hours chatting about the law, the legal profession, politics, traveling, and life in general.

Hugh was very kind in sharing his time with me, and I am grateful to have heard his stories about his career, his family, and his intrepid adventures across the world.

Hugh provided me with much needed guidance throughout my legal education. I carry his insights with me as I embark upon my own career in the law.

Hugh — thank you for your generosity and kindness towards me. We met as strangers but left as friends.

I am very grateful that I had Hugh as a mentor.
Dear Lynda,

I just learned of Hugh's illness and passing. So very sorry for your loss. I hope that you, your children and grandchildren are well. Thinking about you today with sympathy and fondness.
I just learned today of Hugh's passing. I am sorry for your loss. I still miss him standing at the back of LESA seminars offering a "Bon Mot" to all who entered.
Lynda and family...I learned only today of Hugh's passing and I look forward to meeting you here in Edmonton on the 22nd.
I met Hugh through his involvement with LESA and, over the years, it was always a pleasure to attend any seminar he attended (especially the family law ones in Banff). Hugh was funny, charming, firm when the facilities were not up to snuff, calm when others around him were having fits, welcoming to the new lawyers he met every year, adroit at smoothing over problems, adept at finding solutions to anything that arose when he was in charge and so very quick to praise others for their contribution to any event even though we always knew it was his drive and his vision that made LESA the outstanding institution it is today....another of his legacies to his profession. Hugh always found time to answer questions, give directions, offer advice and tell a joke.
After he had retired, I would forget and still look for him so we could share a giggle. Hugh was a very special man and the sadness I feel upon his death is clearly nothing compared to your feelings and I am so very sorry that Hugh is gone from all of the lives he touched and most especially, from those he loved so dearly. All of you were so blessed to have this man in your lives.
Thank you all for sharing him with us. He will be greatly missed.
Dear Lynda, We were very, very saddened to just recently learn of Hugh's struggle and illness, and subsequent passing. We send our deepest, deepest condolences to you and all the family. Love, Marg & Don Fregren
I am truly sorry for your family's loss. Lynda, I remember how kind you were to me when I moved to Edmonton. You and Hugh made a great team. I know your boys will be a great support to you during these most difficult times.

Dear Robertsons,
I am so sorry for your loss. Although I have not seen any of you for years, I have to say that Hugh left a positive and lasting impression on my life (as did your whole family). He was soft spoken, highly intelligent (without ever being unapproachable) and exuded a warm kindness in a strong and gentle way. When I was a child I was truly amazed by him; I still am. I always knew he was a very special person. Lynda, Cam, Matt and Andrew, you all - along with Hugh are one of the most beautiful families I have ever met. I wish you strength at this time and always. Much Love, Lisa
Dear Lynda and Family,
What is left of the Wood Family are sending all the love and best wishes in the world, and are still in shock, having heard only today that Hugh's last struggle is over. You both have a precious place in our hearts, and we have so many memories of Hugh as one of the few truly great, intelligent, spiritual, kind, giving, gentle men, whose life was an example for us all. I will never forget his lovely smile and the way it lit his eyes whenever he said hello, how excited my Mom and Dad were whenever they bumped into you both, and how much they loved and respected you. I am sure they were waiting with the wee dram at what is probably the biggest party heaven has ever seen, but we who are left behind want you to know that you are surrounded by love. Hugh's was a life well lived, full of service, empathy, and love of his fellow man. I am grateful that he was fortunate to share it with such a partner, and hope he knew what everyone who met him did - that his life made a real difference, and had such a positive effect on so many.
Dear Lynda, Cam, Matt, Andrew and the rest of your sweet family,
We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Hugh's passing. The world has lost a very special man. We have always looked forward to our next visit. Now we are left with our very special memories of vacations together so many years ago and fond visits with too much time in between. We will always treasure those special times filled with joy and laughter. We send our love and deepest sympathy to you as you adjust to life without him by your side. We know he will always live large in your hearts and in ours. It was a privilege to know him.
With our love always,
Larry & Tanya
Lynda, Cam, Matt and Andrew and all the wonderful wives, girlfriends and grand kids, our family wanted so badly to be in attendance to pay our respects to "Uncle Hugh." He was such a great partner, father, grad parent, educator, mentor and leader in the community. I cherished the moments spent listening to the fascinating stories he would tell about "Life". A great guy has left this earth who will be truly missed by all.
We send our love, prayers and deepest sympathies to all of the family.
