John was my first Squadron CO in 1952 on VF871 Squadron at Shearwater. We all had really wonderful careers in Naval Air and our pilots were the BEST in NATO. REST IN PEACE my dear friend and comrade.

I have been asked by ROLFE MONTEITH of England to pass on these thoughts: "He was one of the renowned characters of Canadian Naval Aviation" and I would be grateful if you could pass on my condolences to his nearest and dearest.

Lcdr (Deke) Logan was, without a doubt, the finest, fairest, most respected officer I ever served under. I remember him well, and I salute him, and, thank You again sir for being my DO, Lcdr Logan.

We only visited 'Uncle Deke' in PARADISE once when I was about 10 years old but the memory has stuck with me as an especially fun and happy childhood memory. From running free range in the summer sunshine with cousins around acreage (might have been 1 or 20 acres - not sure in my child's eye), to swimming in a cavernous swimming hole, to being grossed out by watching uncle Deke barbecue chicken and having him understandingly and correctly reassure how great it tasted (my first experience with BBQ chicken) when you peeled the skin off! The day was full of fun and laughter, and even as a child I remember thinking how kind and hospitable he and the family were!
Plus, I've never met anyone else who's lived in Paradise!!
Thanks to an obviously lovely man for the memories!

Gone is the Boss of VF871. A supreme fighter pilot - flying with him was a 'top gun' experience during the cold war when demonstrated supremacy on the North Atlantic was crucial in holding the line. A fine gentleman. We have lost another of the greats of Naval Aviation.
Our condolences to his family....
