When I think of Larry, I think of vacations on Maui, where Larry, Sharon and my parents Cal and Betty Courtney frequently vacationed together. Larry was always spontaneous; it was one of the many things my sister Cathy and I loved about him. One day Larry spotted a palm tree laden with coconuts, and decided he wanted a picture of himself climbing the tree to get them. He straddled the tree with his feet planted firmly on the ground and had my dad lie on his back, photographing from below to make it look as though he was halfway up this enormous palm tree. The memory always makes me smile. And I still remember Larry getting Cathy and I to bury him in the sand on the beach. He'd be entirely buried except for his head, happily giving everyone orders and smoking that ever present cigarette. He was having a wonderful time, and he made sure everyone else did, too. He and Sharon had a remarkable bond and I remember them fondly as a great couple and great friends. We'll never forget him.
