Only today (July 10) did I learn about the death of Dr. Etches. Like many others here, I had the pleasure of working with him in the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
He retired the same year as I did. I think of him as sincere and honest in his dealings with families and with us as other disciplines on the Unit. It was a Team Unit, and I was proud to be part of his team.

Hi everyone - thank you so much for the kind, thoughtful and loving messages of support, strength and remembrance.
With gratitude,

I would like to send my sincerest condolences to the family. In living our lives, there are times when we must face the most challenging and difficult losses. May you find strength in remembering special moments, celebrating all that he accomplished, and feeling blessed to have shared your lives with him. Take care

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Phil Etches' passing. I remember him as a caring & kind physician working with him at the RAH NICU/PICU. I'll always remember his smile & great sense of humor. My sincere condolences to the family.

To Phil's family. My deepest condolences. As a former NICU nurse at the Royal Alex, I worked with Phil for 20 years. He was a person who cares deeply for babies and their families. He was well respected by his colleagues, the nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare providers in the NICU. He was team player.

I first met Phil when Nait formed a partnership with the RAH NICU to offer the first specialized Neonatology program for respiratory therapists in Canada. He, along with Neil Finer, was intelligent, skilled, and asked all the right questions, which enabled us to provide a excellent training program. Thus began a wonderful professional relationship of many years.
In their retirement, my wife and I often saw Wai and Phil here on the West Coast, and formed a deep and caring relationship with them both.
To Wai and Nick, our profound sympathy is with you at no longer having Phil in your daily lives. Be assured he is remembered by many, for he touched our lives also.

My sincere condolences. I had the greatest pleasure working with Dr. Etches for many years in the NICU. He was a kind and caring doctor who was excellent in helping families deal with difficult situations. Kelley Clark

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting this Dr. Etches, but we'll long admire him and be grateful for the work ethic, compassion, and thoughtfulness he instilled in his son, Dr. Nick Etches. May Philip's family remain strong and courageous, and may his commitment to the service of patients and communities live on through Nick and all others who learned from him.

So sorry to hear of Phil's passing. I worked with him in NICU at the Royal Alex in Edmonton for may years. He was a wonderful, caring physician who worked tirelessly to improve care for neonates and their families. He will be missed in the medical community.

My condolences. I enjoyed working with Phil for many years at the Royal Alex, as well as sharing times at the rink as hockey parents.
