FARION, Robert John
1940 - 2018
Bob passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 23, 2018. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Joan, of fifty years, and his three children, Ken (Tara), Jana Skiba (Jim), and Rob (Connie). Bob's greatest joy of recent years were his grandchildren, who were his absolute pride: Nell, Isaac, Ava and Kylie. He is also survived by his sister, Gladys, sisters-in-law, Dianne Farion and Barbara Hainsworth, and brother-in-law, Robert (Sharon) Hainsworth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Millie Farion, his brother, Raymond, and infant granddaughter, Celia.
Bob was born, raised and attended school in Redwater, Alberta. He was an avid athlete, enjoying many sports. Bob and Joan established their life together and started their family in Fort Saskatchewan before relocating to Red Deer in 1980. Bob worked most of his life in the Oil and Gas Industry, retiring from his career with the ERCB in 2003. Throughout his life, he made and continued to cherish many lifelong friendships. He will be remembered as a genuine and caring person, always involved with his church, and ready and willing to lend a helping hand through community service including Kinsmen in Fort Saskatchewan, Red Deer Marlin Swim Team, All-City Band, and helping Ukrainian families new to Red Deer. He will be missed by all.
In recent years, Bob expressed heartfelt gratitude for the caring support of his medical team, family and friends. To celebrate with his faith community, a Funeral Service will be held at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3932 – 46 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 6:30 p.m., followed by an informal gathering. Recognizing that many family and friends are unable to attend at this time, a fulsome Celebration of Bob's Life will be held in the Spring. Details will be broadly shared. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to a charity of choice in Bob's memory. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403-340-4040 or 1-800-481-7421.
