Dear Shirley and Family;

As stated earlier by other members of the Mariners ball team that "Wiggy" coached to the Western Canadian Finals in Winnipeg in the early 1980's, Rick was an absolute gem of a man to play for and to know. We were all so young back then and had a TON of fun playing for Rick - he made the hard work of being sucessful fun. At times we couldn't quite put the relevance of his poems together with the game of baseball, but as a much older man now I realize his poems were relating to life, not the game.

We had a Mariners "reunion" this past summer and we ALL were wondering where Rick was and how he was doing. We ALL hoped he was well.

It sounds like Rick had a wonderful life since we last played for him and he was much loved by a large extended family, which is what he deserved - he was a good man to all.

I imagine he's now coaching a ball team in the Big League "up there", hitting grounders to second base and watching the girls ride by the ball diamond on their bikes, smiling from ear to ear.

Rest In Peace Rick (Wiggy).

Dear Shirley, Greg & Family,

Our family is very sad to hear of Rick's passing.
Rick (Wiggy) was highly entertaining. He always had a story, a poem, or a song to share. I would often visit Rick at the Brittania shoe store. He would recite a poem to the ladies while they tried on shoes, then turn to me and ask..."who should be the starting pitcher for the game tonight?"
I have thought of him often, wondered where he's been living, and hoped he was doing well. We have many great memories of Rick and he will be missed by all who knew him. It was a pleasure to have played baseball for Rick...but most of all...it was a pleasure to have known him!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Shirley & Family,

Was saddend to here of Rick's ("Wiggy", as us ball players called him) passing, as so many of us, on the Calgary Mariners baseball team, were asking about him lately. You & the family, have my deepest sympathy and I pray that you are comforted by God, knowing Rick is in a better place, entertaining the good people in heaven, with his stories & poems. Rick made a everlasting impression on me and I'm forever grateful for having the pleasure of meeting & playing baseball for Rick. He was an outstanding man, and I will always remember him...

I was saddened to hear of Rick's passing (Wiggy) as he was known to us in our baseball circle of friends back in the day. I have often thought of him and what he had been up to since we parted ways after baseball. We had some great times together on and off the field, and I will cherish those time and carry them with me always. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
