LALONDE, Sheila Mary (née Cassidy)

Sheila was born in Montréal and raised in Calgary and Black Diamond, Alberta. After completing senior high school she entered the religious community of the Faithful Companions of Jesus (Mother Mary Kevin fcj); during that time she completed her bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta and taught high school chemistry for many years at St. Joseph High school in Edmonton. She is survived by her sister Rita Andrews of Calgary; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friend Mary Jane Pomerleau.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents Joe and Elizabeth Cassidy; her sisters Loretta Bagnall and Leone Smith; her brothers Ivor, Hugh, Kevin and Donald Cassidy; and her husband Norman Lalonde.

I am one of Mrs. Lalonde's many students. I would like to add my personal condolances to her family for her loss. As I have just experienced the loss of my father, I can truly understand and appreciate how very difficult this time will be for each and everyone of you. May God give you all strength and courage to face each new day and may you all remember and cherish the times that you spent with Mrs. Lalonde who was loved by many. Go in peace to the loving arms of your Creator!

Sheila is a very special, special servant of our Lord. She truly loved our Lord - it was very evident in her smile, in her eyes and in her life. I met Sheila at our parish - and she loved to spend time with you. It is a difficult time and we shall miss her but we are all assured that she is truly enjoying Eternity with our Lord. What joy awaits for all of us. Our family will pray for you, Rita and Mary Jane, for our Lord's love to surround you and carry you at this time.

Mrs. Lalonde taught me chemistry in high school 40 years ago but she also taught me a prayer that I have prayed countless times. It was the best thing I learned in school and I have taught my children. Thank-you so much. Love and prayers to her family and dear friends.

I have never forgotten my Chem 10 class with Mrs. Lalonde... (I know she tried her best to get through to me... and I tried my hardest to understand what was going on... At the end...we both agreed I was never going to be a chemist/scientist)... She was a 'famous' teacher and was dedicated to her area of expertise! She taught me that even if you try your best... Sometimes it is not enough. I guess that is what many people struck down by this dreaded disease of cancer (and their family, friends and loved ones)... also come to accept too. I will pray for all of those touched by this loss... and I know that Mrs. Lalonde is in a very special place... where she can be free of pain and suffering. She will never be forgotten by so many.... What a blessing to be called on Palm Sunday....
