Celebration of life for 1LT Brandon "James" Landrum, 26, Lawton will be at 10:00 am Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the First Assembly of God, Lawton with Jamie Austin, Pastor of Woodlake Assembly of God, Tulsa, OK and Rev. Gary Pratt, Associate Pastor of First Assembly of God, Lawton officiating. 1LT Landrum died Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Maiwand, Afghanistan. Following the service, full military honors will be rendered at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Brandon was born December 5, 1986 in Lawton. He graduated from MacArthur High School with honors in 2005. He was raised by loving parents and three mischievous sisters. He was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2008 until 2009. While in Iraq he met his wife Miranda Shae Hornbeck who was also deployed, and they came home on leave together and were married on May 10, 2009 in Lawton. He then graduated from Infantry Basic Officer Leaders Course and Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA. On June 14, 2010 Brandon achieved a dream of being a father, when he and Miranda welcomed a son, Gabriel Brandon Landrum. They later had a daughter, Blakely Reagan Landrum who was born October 21, 2012. Brandon graduated with Honors from Cameron University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and was commissioned a 2LT in the Army's Infantry Branch in May of 2011. Brandon arrived at Fort Bliss in December of 2011, where he became leader of a Rifle Platoon in Company A, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, until September 2012. He then was selected to be the Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, because of his excellence at NTC in August of 2012, and in December of 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His military awards include Bronze Star Medal (Posthumous), Purple Heart (Posthumous), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal-2, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal (Posthumous), Combat Infantry Badge and the Basic Parachutist Badge. Brandon was a member of The First Assembly of God in Lawton, where he was heavily involved in Youth Leadership with Pastor Jamie Austin. He left a huge imprint on others with his leadership and life qualities, his strong faith, his testimony, his trust, his loyalty and his mischief. He was brave, honorable, an incredible hard worker and was larger than life. His love for his wife was "breathtaking", and the letters he wrote her and the memories they shared together will be cherished by her forever. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter of the home, his parents Jim and Jan Landrum of Lawton, three sisters, Ali Church-Pugh and husband Sherman of Crowley, TX, Melissa Griego-Kastner and husband Kayle of Lawton, Eryn Killingsworth and husband Andrew of Berryville, AR, mother-in-law and father-in-law Paula and Ross Hornbeck of Walters, OK, sister-in-law Kayla Hornbeck of Walters, OK, brother-in-law Anthony Hornbeck of Walters, OK, nieces and nephews; Kena Church, Riley Pugh, Ethan Griego, Logan Griego, Kaden Kastner, Morgan Kastner, Tyler Kastner, Trevor Kastner, Hunter Kastner, Kirsten Killingsworth, Mikayla Killingsworth, Ty Chandler, and numerous other aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

1Lt Landrum was the coolest Platoon Leader I served under. He was enlisted first so that experience shaped the way he led. He always had our best interest in mind when receiving an order from higher up. Whether it be how much sleep/rest we had or whether it was even a ridiculous order(we had plenty) he was always there to mitigate whatever he could so we weren´t being totally put out. As a man I had nothing but respect for him. He didn´t smoke much, but that man always bought cartons of cigarettes to hand out when people ran out. This was just one of many little things he do in pursuit of taking care of his men. I think about him and everyone of my teammates that I lost everyday. While their loss has had a huge impact on my life, I´m so grateful to have know such an awesome; leader, father, husband, and friend. To his wife and children: I am so sorry for your loss and can only imagine what you guys have endured over the years. I truly hope you´ve found happiness and peace with his passing.

On Sunday May 26th, the day prior to Memorial Day, my son and I attended church. Our Priest gave a wonderful talk regarding our dedicated men and woman in the military. We are so sorry that some of them had to give their lives for us, including 1st LT. Brandon J. Landrum. We ourselves are so proud that the great men and women of the military had to protect and sacrafice their lives for us. We were asked when church was over, if we could draw a name from a basket that were war hero's. We happen to get 1st LT. Brandon J. Landrum. We wanted to let you know that your family will be in our families prayers for your loss.
God Bless you and take care

That was very nice article in the Daily Oklahoman today about 1LT Landrum & three other fine Oklahoma Soldiers who gave their life for our nation. I was an artillery officer myself during the Vietnam era but somehow was spared the awful experience of war. I have a tribute in wood that I do for the familes of fallen heroes. No cost to the family. Please contact me if you would like furhter information about Portrait Freedom. Best Wishes and God Bless you this Memorial Day.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Brandon will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.
