I just learned of Mr. Baker's passing today. Like others, I worked with Mr. Baker on numerous subrogation cases. He was an outstanding gentleman - kind, always extremely polite, and a pleasure to work with. I'm sad about his passing and will continue to think of him often. Blessings to his family and very close friends.
I am so sorry for the loss of Duane. I know it is late, but I just found out today. I am a court reporter and I worked with Duane on many cases when I lived in EP. I always looked forward to our depositions together. He will be missed. I pray for comfort for you and your family.
Duane worked very closely with my deceased husband (D.Gelo), in the 80's. I can remember my first impression of Duane in that he was a sophisticate and well versed, gentle and dear individual. I always looked forward to any chance being in his awesome presence, for example in The Ainsa House. Our hearts go out to all family and friends whose lives he touched.
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. And to your family and lovedo nes, i wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
I did not learn of Duane's passing until 30 January 2013 while at a funeral which I attended in Del Rio Texas. I received this very sad news from Felix Varela, a former EPPD officer. I first met Duane in 1982 when I started work as an assistant Dist. Atty. in El Paso. Over the years Duane and I worked on a number of cases together. Duane was a great man and a great attorney who I deeply admired. My thoughts and prayers are with Duane's family who was always Duane's first priority. God bless – Clay Cowan – Del Rio, Texas
Isabel, I had the pleassure of meeting both you and Duane through Patsy Villalobos when she worked for Duane. He was truly a gentleman, he always would stop to say hello & chat with me when I was at the office..I remember when you all were dating and then got married, 38 years, what a great blessing. I will always remember he was one of the "good guys". God Bless.
I was about 19 when I met this wonderful young Assistant DA. Always a perfect gentleman and so dedicated to his work. Rest in God's peace, Duane. Aurora - Dallas, Texas
I will forever remember Mr. Baker for the wonderful man he was! My mom is Patty Villalobos, who was his secretary for a long time. He did a lot for her and for me. We never went without even in the hardest of times...that was due to my mom's hard work and Mr. Baker's huge heart and generosity. Thank you so much for everything you did for us! You will be greatly missed! We love you
He was a great man! He will be missed...
Duane was one of the finest and most generous men I ever had the great pleasure of meeting.
I had the privilege of working with Mr. Baker countless times as a court reporter. What a blessing to have worked with one of the best attorneys there is during my time in El Paso. I pray that God may comfort his family and friends. We know that Mr. Baker is well with the Lord, but it is always hard for those who are left behind. Just as Jesus wept for Lazarus, I join his family in their grief, but we have hope because we know that "weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." May God comfort those who cared for him and may He pour out His immeasurable peace upon them.
This world needs more Duane Bakers in it! It would make it a better place to live.
The compassion this man had for his family, friends and country was unbelievable. When our kids were growing up, on Sunday afternoons we would play Volleyball with our friends and family at different Grade Schools to unwind. We always wanted "tall man" on our side.
He will be so missed. God Bless Isabel and his Family.
It is hard to live each day to the fullest, but Duane did!
Before you know it, we will see him soon!
Love to all his family,
Johnnie and Sammy
Regina, with deepest sympathy on the passing of your father-God bless you and give you strength
Duane and I were friends since the third grade. I lived 5 houses apart from the Bakers and I have such wonderful memories of Duane and his entire family. I am heart broken that he is gone from being with us but I will pray for him and his loving wife, Isabel!!I will miss my wonderful friend!!
El Paso has lost one of its very best. I had the privilege of working with Mr. Baker for almost 20 years. My condolences to his family and to the El Paso Bar Association.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of Duanne. My condolences to his family. Duanne "saved" me twice as my attorney when I was accussed of misconduct as a young police officer. I could not have asked for a better lawyer or friend. Duanne made you feel like you were his friend and I know he had true compassion for his friends and clients. Vaya con Dios Duanne. I will see you when I get to heaven.
Isabel, Monica, and the entire family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this heartbreaking time. Duane was such a kind and giving man. It was easy to see how devoted he was and how much he loved his family, especially little Rene and Ray. May that love and your memories of him lift you, hold you close and give you peace. Our heartfelt sympathy.
For more than 30 years, I have had the good fortune and opportunity to sit across the courtroom from Duane Baker. It is a rare man of honest and consistent charater who, as a defense attorney is loved, admired and respected by not only his fellow defense bar, but, uniformly, by the prosecutors as well. If you had a criminal case against Duane, you could be sure he would not lie, play games or posture, but more importantly, he would always do the right thing for his client and vigorously protect his client's rights. For almost 33 years, he has been my mentor and my friend. The loss of Duane Baker is devastating to me,to the legal community professionally and to the entire El Paso community. He was the epitome of of a true gentleman, humaintarian and friend. With deepest sympathy to all his friends and family,
It was very sad to hear of Mr. Baker's passing. My deepest condolences and prayers for the Baker Family. May God bless the family in this time of sorrow. Descanse en pass Mr. Baker...
My deepest condolences to Mrs. Baker and the family. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Mr. Baker. He was a person with a big heart and would always give me advice and was a true friend. I enjoyed watching him, Mrs.Baker and the grandkids walking to Tommy's for lunch. His grandkids were his proud and joy. He will greatly be missed but not forgotten. We will always remember him in our hearts.
Duane was a great man. Always giving of himself for others. He will be missed by many but not forgotten. May His family find peace through God. A friend told me, God must have needed a great attorney to take Duane so early. You have worked hard my friend, now is your time to rest and be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Isabel, It has taken me two days to compose myself and face the reality that Duane is gone. As you know, Duane and I have been friends and colleagues for over 40 years. He was not only a dear friend but my mentor as well. From our days in the DA's office, to working cases togather for the city, to defending criminal cases, there simply was not another lawyer in this community with the tenacity and professional legal and ethical competency to match Duane Baker. I can remember to this day Duane calling me "big boy" when he was my boss at the DA's office and summoning me into his office. We have lost a pillar of the legal coomunity and I will sorely miss him. God bless you Isabel. Gary Weiser
I sat next to Duane in grade school. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I met all the Baker family as a freshman at UTEP. Stephanie and Kathy as sorority sisters and had a flirting relationship with Duane. ! He so loved his fraternity and the brothers and could he dance. Such great memories of times long ago with a wonderful family. My sincere sympathy to all of the Baker family. May you find comfort and smiles in remembering the happy times spent together as a family.

Although I was usually defending the other side of lawsuits filed by Duane for Plaintiffs, he was also one of the attorneys in town who I referred cases to whenever I got a chance because of his outstanding work ethic, high integrity, and consummate professionalism. The El Paso Bar lost one of its finest. My sincere condolences to his wife and family.
I was fortunate to have has the opportunity to work with Duane Baker and I can honestly say he is was the hardest working attorney I have ever known. But even beyond that, he was very generous, compassionate and loving. El Paso has lost a great citizen who loved his city and was a great example for all who he encountered on both a personal and professional level. My deepest condolences From my family to both the Servin and Baker families. He will be greatly missed but always remembered. My thoughts and prayers with you today and always.
You made me into a better field cop and initial crime investigator. I always respected and admired your attention to detail and presentation as a prosecutor. We have lost a dedicated, honest, and highly respected attorney. My deepest condolences to his family and close friends.
We were surprised and deeply saddened to hear of Duane's sudden passing. We share many fond memories of Duane and Isabel at the Ainsa House with Malcolm McGregor and friends. That is a time and place that will forever hold a sacred spot in our hearts. Dear friends like Duane and Isabel are hard to find. Isabel, our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Duane will be sorely missed, not only in the El Paso legal community, but in our lives, as well. God be with you and hold you up at this time of grief and sadness. We love you! Gus, Valli & Maya
Duane and I were Brothers in Pershing Rifles at Texas Western. I am very sorry to read of his passing and I would urge his family to be strong for each other and to remember all the good times.
Mr. Baker was a great person and a great attorney, he will be deeply missed.
So sad to hear of Mr. Bakers death. He represented me very well and also said something to me that I will always remember. It was about three years ago and I was a new mother at the time to a little boy. Mr. Baker told me to "remember that when my son got older and started throwing rocks and horse playing to remember that he was a little boy and that's just what little boys do, it's just in their blood". That has always stuck with me , he was a good and wise man and one of the most fiery people I have ever met. His passing leaves a great hole in the El Paso community. My deepest condolences to his family.
With the passing of Duane, the City of El Paso, and in particular its legal community, has lost a tremendous man and advocate for truth and justice. Soon after I returned to El Paso from law school in 1981, Duane and I began working together in defending police officers who were accused of police misconduct. That professional relationship continued until his untimely death yesterday. Duane quickly became my mentor and I soon learned from observing him how to think and act like a professional , in and out of the courtroom. I will miss him greatly. My heartfelt sympathies and prayers go to Isabel and his family.
We at Austin H.S. and Texas Western College lost a good friend and the city lost a man who loved El Paso.
Duane Baker was a great man and it was an extreme pleasure to have worked with and known him. My deepest heartfelt condelences to his entire family as he will be deeply missed.
Duane was our best friend from grade school to the night he died. What a trajedy, a devasting loss. To describe Duane, you need many adjectives..kind, compassionate, loyal, and committed to uphold what he valued the most. He was passionate about helping children. I think he felt their vulnerability, perhaps from the experience of losing his only biological child right before birth. He cared about the childen in his family and gave, not only his money but his precious, limited time and energy to assure they knew they were loved. Yes, and the greatest of these is LOVE. This is the kind of man Duane was. To his friends he would give not only the shirt off his back but anything you needed. My husband and I recently lost our home with everything in it to the Waldo Fire in Colorado. Duane called my husband Winston and said," What do you need, $100,000. or $200,000? I'll be happy to give you what you need." We were lucky that our insurance was USAA and didn't need his financial help. Can you imagine what that offer meant to us? That was Duane, always giving to others, and never considering the cost to himself. He would just work a little harder.
God bless and hold you in His arms, Duane. We are going to miss our conversations and your succinct observations. As God's word tells us in Paul's letter to the Corinthians, " If we are absent from the body, we are present with the Lord." You are in his care and if God is for you , what more could you need? As we always used to toast," Salud, pesetes, and amor" and now a new ending, y no mas tiempo para disfurtarlos . How will we live without you? Best friends forever!
LOve xx&oo, Barbara and Winston
Duane Baker handled a car accident personal injury claim for me back in 2004 or 2005. I still grin to this day when I think about how well he put the claims rep from the insurance company in his place on numerous occasions. Feisty attorneys like Duane are hard to come by these days!
Mr Baker was a good man, great lawyer, and trusted colleague. I will miss our courthouse discussions greatly. My sympathies to the family.
Duane was a great man, and a great lawyer. I learned something from him every time we had a case, whether we were opposed or on the same side. His leaving us leaves a great hole in our community.
It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Mr. Baker during the course of his practice. Our deepest condolences to his family, our prayers and thoughts are with you all.
