I was a chemist who was laid off work in San Diego and took a position with a solvent extraction plant just outside of Las Cruces New Mexico, back in 1994. I was living in an old farm house, owned by my parents and my TV could only pick up one station from El Paso. Jim was the weather forecaster there and the first thing I remember him talking about was all of the static electricity in the dry, fall air. I remember him talking about "all those negative, air-borne ions out there, colliding and banging into each other" and I was like, 'Ok this guy is really into it.'
I looked forward to Jim's forecasts for almost a year after that, until I finally accepted an engineering job in the Boston area. After that, Jim was always the guy with whom I compared every other meteorologist, over the years. The only one that has ever come close is Paul Barys, here in Chattanooga Tennessee, which is where I grew up and now live.
As a chemist, I just always found Jim's enthusiasm and knowledge to be very impressive and I was saddened to learn that he passed away at such a young age. Blessings to his family.

Jan & boys, and Molly,
Roger & I are praying for you as you go through this tough time, thankfully not alone but with the comfort of our Savior. We remember being at your house with Patrick and Aundie, marveling over the collection of weather gear around your home. I know he will always be remembered by the community for his weather "bug". We remember the fun times (when the kids were small) when we used to hang together!

My wife Anne reminded me of another Jim Gamble story. The astronomy club we belonged to met at Hueco Tanks for a Star Party. It was a little after sunset and here comes Jim with his telescope, dressed in short pants, sneakers and a T-shirt. He sat his equipment down after the long hike from the parking lot, and stood there catching his breath. Lo and behold, he started doing a little jig dance while reaching down and slapping his legs. He was standing directly on an ant hill and the ants quickly made their way up his legs, biting as they went along. We quickly moved his equipment and Jim hastily slapped the last of the ants off of his shoes, legs and a few that made it into his shorts. My wife, who is a nurse, brought out her medical kit and gave Jim alcohol swabs to dab on the sore spots. He was so appreciative of her being in the right place at the right time.
Somethings you remember for a lifetime. Seeing Jim Gamble do his little ant jig will be one of them. Jim Gamble will always be remembered for his sense of humor and being an all around good guy. I am looking forward to his Heavenly weather reports.

Jan, Chris and Steve,
I have some great memory's of Jim. He will be missed so much. He took me to the station to show me how the weather was done and then showed me how he was going to do this April fools joke and I went home and watched it play out and rolled on the floor with laughter and now all I can do is retell the story of a great man. God bliss him and your family. Craig and Virginia

He came to my house in the Hueco mountains with his wife looking for a new spot for the astronomy club we belonged to. There was a thunder storm brewing and he was more interested in that than looking for some place dark for telescopes. The weather news was never the same after he left. Such a sweet man with a loving personality that cared for everyone. I cannot believe he was only 60, gone but never forgotten. No doubt some Heavenly weather station will grab him as soon as he lands. Blessings to his family. Jim & Anne Sparks, Hudspeth county, Texas.

Jim has been, very simply, a true friend. About a year ago we stumbled upon each other, and it was as if we'd lost touch a month earlier instead of 24 years ago. I've watched Jim battle cancer this past year, constantly amazed at his courage and at the peace he clearly felt. Since the diagnosis, his ongoing concern has been for his wonderful wife Jan. The entire Gamble family deserves our fond thoughts and heartfelt prayers.

To the Gamble Family: I would like to send prayers and condolences to you, his friends and colleagues. I used to be a loyal fan of his weather sessions on KTSM. He was professional, friendly, informative and at times funny. May God wrap each of you in beautiful, loving memories during this time. He no longer feels pain and will rest in peace among the stars he enjoyed viewing.
