Leslie Susan Samuels, age 55, passed peacefully at home on September 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. In the eight weeks following her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, she chose to live and explore nature by paddle boarding local lakes, ponds, creeks, and other natural gems with her brother. In the past month, she cherished the taste of lemon cake (and pie) for her 55th birthday and experienced the Perseid Meteor Shower while under a warm blanket sandwiched between family gazing at the night sky waiting to make a wish.
Born in Erie, Pa., on August 7, 1963, she was the daughter of Barbara Jean (Michel) Samuels and the late James Francis Samuels. She graduated from McDowell High School, the Art Institute of Chicago, and UCSD, majoring in Video and Performing Art. She had a passion for learning, nature, and creating.
Leslie is survived by her husband, Donald Mallwitz; her mother, Barbara Jean Samuels; her brother, James M. Samuels and her sister in law, Norine R. Gammon; one nephew, Andrew J. Samuels; three aunts; two uncles, and several cousins.
Following Leslie's wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Inner-City Neighborhood Art House, 201 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16503 nah.eriebenedictines.org" target="_blank">(nah.eriebenedictines.org).

A special woman with the heart and soul of a sage. Much love and condolences to you Barb, Jamie, Noreen and to all who knew and loved her. I will miss Leslie's visits indeed, her spirit, her truth, her genius and ingenuousness, but take solace in knowing she is soaring in the heavens. Something tells me she's enjoying the flight.... xoxo
