Gordon Aikens Obituary


Gordon L. Aikens, age 87, of Harborcreek Twp., passed away at his residence on Friday, June 5, 2015. He was born in Spartansburg, Pa. on February 22, 1928, son of the late Ray F. and Florence E. Northrop Aikens.

Gordon was a 1946 graduate of Harbor Creek High School. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He was self-employed for many years as owner and operator of Aikens and Majewski Masonry Contractors. He was also previously employed by the General Electric Co. and Gannondale, where he officially retired from in 1990. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, making and competing in chili cook-offs, and especially loved spending time with his family at camp in Tionesta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Warren, Robert, and Daniel Aikens. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris A. Meyer Aikens; three children: Janet R. Allamon of Naples, Fla., Gordon W. Aikens of Cranberry Twp., and Jeffrey P. Aikens (Mary A.) of Harborcreek; six grandchildren: John and Jason Allamon, Carlee Grace, Brian, Eric, and Kyle Aikens; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.), on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted there on Wednesday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. David Laakso, pastor, Faith Lutheran Church. Gordon will be laid to rest in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 East Lake Rd., Erie, PA 16511. Share condolences at www.dusckas-taylorfuneralhome.com.
