Richard J. Diehl of Cranesville, Pa., passed on to his eternal home on October 16, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on August 28, 1952 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pa. He was a son of the late Betty L. Hill Diehl and Martius A. Diehl of Elk Creek Township. Rick was raised in Cranesville and graduated from Cranesville Elementary School then Northwestern Jr. and Sr. High School. Rick also went on to graduate from Erie County Technical School. After high school, Rick was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy while stationed at Naval Air Station-Miramar in San Diego, Calif. He was named "Sailor of the Month" out of a full complement of 850 personnel and received a commendation from the commanding officer for outstanding performance. He also attended Machinery Repairman "A" School and graduated as "Honor Man" from a class of 25.
Rick was active in the community having served as a member and past chairman of the Cranesville Boro Planning Commission. He also served for many years as the Democrat Committee Man for Cranesville Boro.
Rick was a 25 year member of Western Star Masonic Lodge where he also served on the Board of Directors for many years of the hall association.
He retired after 38 years of service as a class "A" toolmaker from Penn-Union Corporation in Edinboro, where he also served on the safety committee for GMP Local 61.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Diehl (Hill).
Rick is survived by his wife, best friend, and soul mate of 34 years, Victoria Klobusnik Diehl; by a sister, Arlene Bevan of Pittsburgh, Pa.; by his father, Marty of Elk Creek Twp.; and by several other nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Friends may call at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Friday, October 18th, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Funeral Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Friends are also invited to attend a Service of Christian Life at Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., Erie, Pa. on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor William Coleman presiding. An additional hour of calling from 10 to 11 a.m. will precede the service. Interment will be held at Hope Cemetery in Cranesville, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luther Memorial Church, Western Star Lodge Hall Association, or Cranesville Vol. Fire Dept. Special thanks to VNA Hospice team for their compassionate care and support.

Vicky and the Klobusnik and Diehl families, Rick was a very wonderful person. He always had a smile ready for everyone that he saw. I miss his candid talks.
