Alex Smolenski

Alex Smolenski, 86 years old, passed away on Friday October 28, 2016. He was born in Oxford, NJ, to parents Stanley and Theofila (Paremba) Smolenski. After attending Washington High School, Alex enlisted in the US Army where he was stationed in various locations. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Alex met the love of his life at the Hills Diner in Washington NJ. He and Julia (Grebechenko) Smolenski were married on September 25th, 1954. Theirs was a marriage as well as a lifelong partnership of 62 years. Alex was one of the original hires at the new M&M Mars plant in Hackettstown NJ. He was personally hired by Forrest Mars and worked there for the next 35 years retiring in 1992. After retirement, Alex and Julia moved to Pennsylvania ultimately residing in Forks Township. A favorite pastime for them was to drive and see the sights. Shortly after retirement they travelled to Russia, where Julia had the chance to reconnect with her roots and celebrate her 55th birthday with relatives. Some time passed and Alex's health became such that he required more care than his loving Julia could provide. He was placed in Alexandria Manor in Bath PA, where he got superb care from the loving and dedicated staff until he passed. Alex is survived by his wife Julia and Brothers Chester and John with his other siblings predeceasing him. Having no children' their Cat child "Bootsy" brought and still brings much joy. Julia and "Bootsy" are currently residents at Atria Living in Bethlehem PA. Alex will be greatly missed by them. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12 noon at The Finegan Funeral Home, 924 Second Ave., Alpha, NJ. A viewing will be held from 11 am to 12 noon.
