Dear Ms. (Christine) Martin, Pam, and Susan and family,
I was SO shocked and saddened to learn of Rich's death. For nearly 40 years I've counted him a significant part of my life--since we met in 9th grade Communicant's class at 1st Presbyterian, Allentown. He was my first true love and although we were mostly goofy teenagers, even when we broke up after more than a year of dating, I always counted him a friend. I'm so sorry I last saw him in college (although my parents hired him when he and his dad were in business, so I had some news at times).
I loved Rich's sense of humor, his intellect, and even way back then he showed sgns of the drive that apparently characterized his entire life. I find it sweet and odd that I chose a career in medicine, married a computer geek, and my step-son is a phenomenal physicist--those parallels with steps/aspects of Rich's life will help keep him in my heart's memory.
Although his photo shows balding and a mustache, he looked more like Justin Beiber (including the hair!) when we were kids and to me he really looks just like when we met.
Having had plenty of loss in my own life, I DO know your profound pain and loss, and the horror and numbness that go with it. Keep trusting that God is still in charge--you don't have to understand, He does, and you will be together before you know.
With love for those he loved,
