DEAR SHARON, JUSTIN & FAMILY:

I JUST LEARNED OF SPENCE'S PASSING AND I AM SHOCKED AND DEEPLY SADDENED. I HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES OF SPENCE THAT I'D LIKE TO SHARE. I FIRST MET SPENCE BACK IN THE 70'S, THE DAYS OF DISCO, BELL-BOTTOMED PANTS AND EARTH SHOES. IT TOOK ALL OF ABOUT 2 MINUTES FOR US TO BECOME FRIENDS. BACK THEN, SPENCE, RAY GENCARELLI, JOHN SCHELTZER AND I ENJOYED OUR WEEKLY TRIPS TO OUR FAVORITE "WATERING HOLE", THE ALE HOUSE, WHERE WE WERE KNOWN TO HOIST A FEW. I'LL NEVER FORGET THE GREAT PARTIES AT SPENCE & BECKY'S APT., AS WELL AS, THE INFAMOUS SUNDAY "GOTTCHA" PARTIES. SUMMERS MEANT TRIPS TO THE BEACH IN MARGATE AND I WAS THERE THE NIGHT SPENCE MET SHARON. IT SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY WHEN SPENCE FOUND HIS PRIZED POSSESSION, HIS CORVETTE, UP ON CINDER BLOCKS WITH THE WHEELS STOLEN. SPENCE AND I PLAYED FOR WAINWRIGHT'S SOFTBALL TEAM. I THINK THE OTHER "BOYS OF SUMMER", (RAY,JR,AL,TED,BECKY, JIM,JACK,BOB&JOHN), WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT IT SEEMED SPENCE SPENT MORE TIME LOOKING FOR HIS CONTACTS THAN FIELDING HIS POSITION. I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER SPENCE'S GREAT SENSE OF HUMOUR. ONE TIME, MY WIFE, JANIE, SPOTTED ONE OF SPENCE'S UNDERGARMENTS ON THE FLOOR OF SPENCE & SHARON'S NEW APT. IN BETHLEHEM. A RED-FACED SPENCE QUICKLY REACTED WITH AN EMBARRESSED GRIN, PARTIALLY HIDDEN BY HIS MUSTACHE, WITH A GREAT ONE-LINER, "PARDON MY JOCK!".
I REGRET THAT WASN'T ABLE TO SEE SPENCE ONE MORE TIME. I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM AS A GREAT AND LOYAL FRIEND. ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS IS GONE.

Tomorrow is Spence's services and it is still hard to believe. I knew Spence through the run club at the Y. His smile and the twinkle in his eyes are what I will see when I think of him but it's his loyalty, dedication and strength that will stay in my heart. Well Spence I guess you were feeling froggy...I love you my friend and you will be greatly missed!

We remember Spencer's commitment and support of the local section of the ASQ. We thank him for all those years of work. May he rest in peace, and our sympathies go out to his family.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Spence. It was a pleasure to work with him at Agere/Lucent he was always upbeat and positive. The world needs more people like Spence. My prayers and condolences are with you and your family.
