Dr. Charles H. Glatfelter was a great friend of the Weiser family. He worked and collaborated with my late uncle, Reverend Frederick Sheely Weiser, and served as his mentor at Gettysburg College during the 1950's. Dr. Glatfelter knew and was respected by both of my grandparents, the late Donald K. and Elizabeth S. Weiser. Had Frederick S. Weiser not had such a positive experience with Dr. Glatfelter at Gettysburg College, my uncle might never have been so successful in his own historical writings.
My mother and I certainly appreciated Dr. Glatfelter's frequent visits to my uncle who was bedridden in his home at New Oxford in 2008-2009. And even though his own health was suffering, Dr. Galtfelter attended Fred's funeral in York in 2009.
Last year, we met with Dr. Glatfelter a final time in Gettysburg. We were thankful then, and are thankful now, for his wise advice and counsel.
Dr. Charles Glatfelter will never be forgotten by the Gettysburg College community and the many students and families whom he counseled. He was much more than a historian....
