Thomas John Draper, 68, of Independence, passed away August 21, 2014, after a long hospital stay.
Originally from Holland, New York, Tom served his country for 4 years in the Air Force followed by several years in the National Guard. Tom greatly enjoyed his years of service and also his career of many years as a truck driver, a vocation at which he excelled.
Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home, two brothers, James Draper of Florida; Daniel Draper of New York; sister Linda Kolsar of Nevada. Tom loved four daughters, Debi Cogburn and Renee Wilcher of Kansas City, Deanna Henry of Lee's Summit, and Danielle Burch of Greenwood, Mo.; several grandchildren; many friends and neighbors, and two spoiled Yorkies. Tom was a gentle, God loving man who will be greatly missed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tom's name to the Wounded Warrior Project.org.
Visitation services will be held on Monday, August 25, 6-8 p.m., at New Salem Funeral Home in Independence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. with internment in the New Salem Cemetery immediately following, with full Military Honors.
