I met Art through his wife Dorothy while I General Manager of several Country Club in the Virginia and North Carolina areas. I found him to be one of the most knowledgeable and entertaining persons I have known. To his family and friends we have lost a great person.

Donovan Family
In many ways, Artie was indestructable. However, Father Time gets us all. I was a member of his Valley Country Club for several years and valued Artie's eternal friendliness. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be missed especially by his devoted family. My sincere sympathy to all of you in this time of grief. Rest in peace, Artie!!

I am a Baltimore native and my wife and myself met Artie at a radio show he had at a tavern in Towson. When he asked my name I said David and Cindy Bilenki. I told Artie to just call me blinky. He laughted and said he would rember me. A few weeks later we went to see his show and when he saw us he yelled out blinky . Right? He came over to us to shake my hand and thanked us for coming by. A great man and a great loss.

I remember Art very well, in a way he shaped my life; Almost 40 yrs ago he had a package good store, I worked for BGE, on a summer day, raining like hell,I cane into read his meter, soaked to the skin, he said to me you can't go back out there out like that. he had a dryer in the back of the store. While drying we talked and what a great guy he was. Rest in peace Artie, my prayers to the Donovan family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Donovan, in of all places, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was winter of 1999/2000 and it was my last night working as a 'greeter' at a restaurant south of town called 'El Set'. Mr. Donovan walked in one evening with two women who - if memory serves correctly - he said were his wife and sister-in-law. Believe it or not, I recognized him immediately (I think I had seen him on the Tonight Show a few months earlier??) and called him by name. He seemed a bit surprised, but was extremely friendly. We chatted for a minute and I asked if I could buy him a drink. He said "sure" and we went to the bar while his lady companions went to their table. We sat at the bar for a couple of hours talking football and joking around (thus, my last night of employment!). To this day, it was one of the most enjoyable encounters of my life. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.

Watched and laughed with him and the rest of the viewers on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The world needs a lot more Art Donovans. Thank you for the laughs.

What a wonderful person Artie was. I was so happy that he took the time to meet with me and sit and talk with me at length at the bar in his country club during our neice's wedding reception. What a gifted story teller and person he was. A very sad day for the older football fans that saw him play the game. My deepest sympathies to the Donovan family. You were certainly blessed to have him with you for so long.
