But we do not wish you to be ignorant about those who have gone to their rest, brothers, in order that you may not grieve the same as the others do, who do not have a hope. 1 Thes. 4:13

Carol, I am so sorry for your loss. I will never forget Coach, I am so thankful you came to Colorado and I was fortunate to get to know you through my dad Fred Casotti. May you always remember the wonderful 61 years you had with each other.

In 1988, Coach James met with a group of Redmond Jr. High students. The meeting was a reward for outstanding grades and accomplishment on the athletic field.
The first thing Don asked was, "how many of you go to church"....the conversation went on and a young man asked, "what are your goals this year?". Coach James replied, to run a marathon and read the Old and New Testament front to back! That got their attention! and they didn't have Books on Tape!
What a guy. What a program. People like Don James and Mike Lude VERY rarely come along and we Huskies were the beneficiaries.

Dear Carol,
I have so many wonderful memories of Coach James and you during our time with the team. He was an incredible man, a great role model for the student athletes, as well as the staff, with high standards and concern for everyone. Needless to say, he was a great coach, as well. May God bless you in your time of mourning. Patty (Hall) Woodruff (former wife of Rick Hall)

My dearly departed Father (Warren "Toar" Haines) was a cousin of Donny James and he always spoke so highly of him. I extend my most sincere condolences to the family of this dear man.

I graduated from UW Dec'91 and promptly drove down to attend the Rose Bowl (against Desmond Howard and the Michigan Wolverimes) - we shared the national championship that year with Miami. What a great graduation present.

My heart goes out to the Jes Family and Husky Nation. Our generation in Seattle have been so privileged to have the best and classiest in our sports scene and Don James lead the way And set the tone.

Thank you and Godspeed. We will never be able to repay you for all you gave us.

In 1988 I was in Don's office with a group of redmond Jr High athletes being rewarded with a visit. One of the young men asked Coach James what his personal goals were. Don replied, "his goals in 1988 were to complete a marathon AND read the Old and New Testament. he is in a better place.
