Buster L. Carroll
Buster Leon Carroll, 83, of Florence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014. He was born on Oct. 9, 1930, to the late Cornelia Carroll Anderson, grew up in the Smithsonia community, and was a graduate of Waterloo High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Local IBEW 558 through his career and retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joyce S. Carroll, and is survived by his son, Michael (Perryn), daughter, Beth Conwell (Bill), and grandsons, Caleb, Jacob, Zachary, and Sam Carroll. Buster was a member of North Wood United Methodist Church. He was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather and worked hard to provide the very best for his family. A life-long University of Alabama football fan, he wore a hounds tooth hat daily and was affectionately referred to as "coach" by his caregivers.
Visitation will be March 28, 2014, from noon-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home, and the funeral service will follow in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial in Greenview Memorial Park. The Rev. Steven Lee Reding, Pastor of North Wood United Methodist Church, is officiating.
The family would like to recognize and thank the wonderful caregivers at the Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City, Ala. The family is also thankful for all the friends and family for their prayers, concerns, kind words, and thoughts.
Pallbearers will be Louis Whitten, Marion Darby, James Nance, Gary Irons, Wendall Irons, Tommy Mansell, and Dan Aldridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to North Wood United Methodist Church, 1129 Wills Ave., Florence, AL 35630.

My mother Edna (Dude) Smith and Buster's mother Cornelia were like sisters. He and my Brother J.W. were very close. We all lived in the Bend Of The River. Buster was loved by all, who knew him and he loved the Lord. I loved seeing him at North Wood, visiting him at both Merrill Gardens and Florence Nursing Home. I will miss him, but am glad he is with our heavenly Father. May God bless you with His peace and good memories. My love to to you Mike and Beth and your family.
