Mariam Ruth Curry Wyant McCollum August 11, 1940 - September 13, 2013 Mariam Ruth Curry Wyant McCollum passed away on Friday, September 13, 2013, at her home. She was born on August 11, 1940, in Waynesboro, Virginia. Mariam was predeceased by her parents, Ruth P. and John B. Curry; and two cousins, Patricia Straley and George Varner. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Richard "Mac" McCollum; his son, Michael and his wife Frances; his sister, Julia and her husband John, and Julia's son, Steve. Mariam is survived by her two brothers, John Curry II and his wife Theresa, and Richard Curry and his wife Jeannie; one sister, Emily Leap and her husband Steve of Matthews, Virginia. She is also survived by her four children, twin sons, Barry C. Wyant and his partner Trish of Raphine, Virginia, and Gary B. Wyant and his wife Wanda of Brown Summit, North Carolina, and Bartley G. Wyant of Gretna, Virginia; and one daughter, Leslie Lippa and her husband Tom of Pleasant Garden, North Carolina. Mariam was blessed to have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mariam was a strong woman who accomplished everything she set her mind to. She especially loved having her family around her, and was surrounded by them at the time of her passing. She has donated her body to a cancer research facility dedicated to metastatic breast cancer in the hopes of preventing other women from suffering as she did. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, North Carolina. The family gratefully acknowledges the care provided by Wesley Long Cancer Center, UNC-Chapel Hill Cancer Center, and Hospice of Greensboro.
