FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Willie Lucas Smith, 96, of 350 Shasta St., formerly of Roseboro and the Piney Green community, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, in Highland House of Fayetteville. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, in Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro, with the Rev. Donald Keith Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucas Cemetery in Roseboro. Mrs. Smith was born April 3, 1916, in Sampson County to the late Archie L. and Adeline Autry Lucas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph L. Smith; and a son-in-law, Estel "Shug" Royal Jr. She was a member of Piney Green Baptist Church and was a seamstress. She is survived by a son, Kenneth R. Smith and wife Thelma of Fayetteville; two daughters, Joe Ann Royal of Roseboro and Faye Volin and husband Peter of Cary; seven grandchildren; and eight great-granddaughters. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at at other times at the home of her daughter, Joe Ann, 206 Royal Road, Roseboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Green Baptist Church, 6040 High House Road, Salemburg, NC 28385. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro St., Roseboro.
