As a first-year teacher, I had the pleasure of teaching with Leona. We were on the same staff from 1969-75 at H.T. Burt Elementary School in Ortonville. She was an excellent model for us younger teachers. Leona had a wonderful calmness with her kindergarten children. You could tell that she loved her students, and they, in turn, loved and respected her. I'm sure many of her former students still have the black and white silhouettes of themselves that they made in Miss Smith's class. We all looked forward to seeing those cute profiles every year.
To her family I send may prayers and sympathy. May you rest in peace, Leona.

God Bless Miss Smith... She was my kindergarten teacher at Blanche Sims Elementary School in Lake Orion, school year 1956-57. She helped a shy little girl love learning, and after my 35 years of teaching - many of those years in kindergarten! - I still smile when I think of her kind demeanor and gentle way. Thank you, Miss Smith for all the wonderful memories!! Love and Blessings, Kathy Hauxwell McMinn Lake Orion, Michigan
