Responding to "Tom waits for no man":
Mid-night Tom began his C of C shift. I told him an especially delusional, large male had been very challenging for several hours. He set down the med book, came out and confronted the patient, then single-handedly, physically put him in seclusion. A guy you rarely are fortunate enough to meet.

I don't know why but Tom came to my mind tonight. I worked with him at Holmes in 1981/83. He was a great nurse and I being just out of nursing school I learned a lot from him. Funny story....one evening 3 of us were going to supper in the cafeteria, one of the girls was off doing something and Tom was ready to go....he said, "Tom waits for no man". I thought that was so funny and I think of him when that phrase comes into my mind.

Tom was an utmost gentleman and exceptional nurse. Despite working at HRMC for 13 years, our paths never met. Tom worked the night shift and I on days. But then A year ago I began a new nursing career at Circles of Care. I had the pleasure of giving report to Tom every weekend. Without exception, Tom always had a way of making me feel special, never an unkind word, as if he appreciated my insight and efforts in caring for our patients. Lastly, I'll never forget his sense of humor. Without fail, Tom would make me laugh with his quick wit and deadpan delivery. Thank you Tom for everything. And to your wife and family, my sincere condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of Tom's death. He was my first charge nurse in my first nursing job. I had the pleasure of running into him after nearly 15 years recently. Your family is in my prayers.
