Carl Edwards Obituary

Carl Henry Edwards, age 88, of Cumming passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and George Dayton Edwards; brother, George Dayton Edwards Jr.; sisters, Eva Sue Baggett, Judy Edwards Stiles; brothers-in-law, Charles F. Ferrell, Phil P. Ferrell, Lloyd Hamby, and Newton Baggett.
Carl was a longtime member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Tucker, before moving to Forsyth County in 1997. Known for his firm handshake, Christian work ethic and love of mankind, he was always the first to volunteer for any project, large or small.
A United States Navy Veteran, Carl was a 1950 graduate of Milligan College with a Bachelor's of Science degree. As a math teacher in Appalachia, Va., he began impacting younger generations by sharing knowledge and "doing the right thing". Never one to be idle, he loved working and retired four times after a long career with General Cable and Pyrotenax. His last retirement was from Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit as a Court Bailiff.
In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and golfing. Carl held many memberships including Knights Templar Coeur De Lion Commandery No. 4, Yaarab Temple Atlanta, Masons Chamblee Council No. 5, Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Georgia Sardis Council No. 53, Johnson City Lodge # 486 Free Masons 50 year member.
Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann Ferrell Edwards; son, Carl Alan Edwards, Peachtree Corners; daughter, Nancy Edwards Klein, Cumming; grandchildren, Ashley Edwards Puckett (Matt), Bethlehem, Ryan Alan Edwards (Ashley Lauren),Winder, Erin Edwards Woodall, Winder, Amanda McGarey Byerly (Joe), Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother, Shelton H. Edwards, Stafford, Va.; sisters, Madonna Edwards Cook, (Bill Sr.), Thorn Hill, Tenn., Charlotte Edwards Borsick, Sandusky, Ohio; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sarah and Joe Morgan, Johnson City, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Carol Ann Ferrell, Greeneville, Tenn., Jesse Hamby, Radford, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews and 10 great-grandsons.
A memorial service, with the Rev. Kathie Stasko officiating will be held Wednesday, March 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Cumming First United Methodist Church. Visitation will precede the memorial service at 1 p.m. at the church. Private interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Milligan College, P.O. Box 750, Milligan College, TN 37682 or Cumming First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 660, Cumming, GA 30028.
