EDDIE B.GONE!!! THAT DAY THE MUSIC DIED.
What an awesome musical legacy, he left! Not enough words in the dictionary to describe Eddie B and his wonderful contributions to the Polka industry! I LOVED his honky!!! When he got on drums the room lit up and the snare drum beat got into your very soul and made you want to get up and dance and burst with excitement!! Thank you Eddie for all the wonderful music you provided over the years and the dances we all attend and celebrated like one family!! RIP my good friend you got some wonderful people up there with you. Say hello to Lil Wally and Jenette, Eddie Zima and Casey Siewerski and all the Brothers of the Note for me! I miss them all!!

The very first time I heard Eddie and his band was on a Sunday at Club Antoinette on the corner of 46th and Richmond in 1973. An unforgettable event in my life AZ couple of months before his passing, I shook his hand at Gendora. I have been and will continue to be one of his most avid fans. He was an ambassador for Polish Music. He will always live through his music. Anyone who saw him play had a smile on their face and nodded their head "Yeah"
You will be truly missed!!
Eddie, as a bandleader myself and hosting a polka show for almost 30 years, your music was the most requested Polish style of all those years. I especially received many requests from Armstrong Creek Wisconsin where the folks there told me you grew up in that area. My wife and I wanted to have you play for our wedding, but you were booked far in advance of our wedding day plans. Keep that good Polish style music going up there in Heaven Eddie...
Eddie you were the best! I hope my family and all your many fans in heaven are welcoming you. You will be missed. Until we meet again.
To the man who we will always look up to as having the greatest influence on us with his music and true friendship. We will never forget the memories of just getting to see you and hear you sing. We love and miss you Eddie B. "Big Moose" & Patty Rosana
Eddie: You are the reason our family loves this music so much. You created something very special, something we couldn't help but love. Every upcoming recording kept us anxious to hear, and left us hungry for more. Our girls grew up loving your music as much as Dan and I do, and for that we are grateful. You always made everyone around you feel accepted, happy, and you kept us laughing and smiling. Your friendship was genuine and special to everyone. Your family sacrificed being with you so your countless fans could be blessed with your wonderful talents, and for that we will always be deeply grateful. And your voice--there will NEVER be another one like it! You've left a huge void in the Polka Field, but not in our hearts, because we will never stop missing and loving you. The Mateja Family
Idz Z Bogiem, Edziu! Our loss is heaven's gain. You gave so much to so many and in return you received love, admiration and respect from your many friends and colleagues. Thank for sharing your talents and life's work leaving a wonderful legacy of happiness for us all.

To the Blazonczyk Family, may you be conforted in this time of loss. Thank you for sharing such a talented and great human being.
Eddie had so many accomplishments. Most important was the happiness and joy that he brought to myself and so many people around the world. I was a Polka Dancer for many years; originally from Michigan, What a feeling of euphoria his voice and music would bring at the dances and thru his numerous recordings.
Eddie, I'm sure you are still smiling, as all the people that were blessed to have heard your music, will always be smiling with the memories and when listening to your music.
To the Best....With Gratitude.
To the Blazonczyk family: my deepest sympathy is sent to you. I'll always remember the fun times at the dances held at St Michaels the Saturday after Easter. May Eddie rest in peace.

I always loved Eddie's music. Two of my favorites were When I Hear the Music and his rendition of White Christmas. May the family find comfort with the happiness that Eddie B. brought to them and to those who loved his music!
His son Eddie Jr. will carry on his legacy I am sure. Many condolences to the family. May you all find find comfort through God's love but also each other and the many memories you have of Eddie.
What a great man and entertainer....it was a pleasure to meet you and know you. RIP Eddie B!
My deepest sympathy to all of you. I knew Eddie from my days of working the Fourth of July polkas at Seven Springs Resort where Eddie instilled my love of polka and he always gave me some cassettes for my mother. He was the best! He will surely be missed. My love to the family.
My deepest sympathies to the Blazonczyk family. There'll never be another like Eddie. I saw him for the first time at Harty's Pub in the Pittsburgh area in 1981 and many times after whenever and wherever I could, but he never sounded better than at Fiedor's Grove. I always hoped to hear his songs on the various polka shows on Sundays. He always was and always will be my favorite. I often say that if Eddie recorded it, there's no need for other bands to even try. Nothing comes close to a Versatones tune with his vocals. How fitting that "When I Hear the Music" is my favorite song because Eddie will truly live on in his music. What a gift to us all are his many recordings. Rest in peace, Eddie B.
RIP Eddie B. I used to enjoy watching you at Idora Park.
We have truly lost a Polka Hero. Eddie Sr. cemented a budding relationship between my late husband (Jerry Baczewski) and I by dedicating a song to us during one of our first dates. Eddie had a true relationship with his fans. He is now up there with the "Polka Band in the Sky". RIP my dear friend.
Thank you, Eddie for the many years of sharing your music, talent, smiles and heart with so many!! Bel-Aire Days, and all of your dances were just the greatest times and memories... memories that will live on forever through your incredible polka music that made any time a "Celebration"!!Tish and family, our thoughts, prayers, appreciation and best wishes are sent your way in hoping that all of the wonderful times spent together will carry you through this time of great loss...
Sincerely,
Pat Mieszala and all of the Mieszala's in CA, WI and IL

My wife Ursula and all the members of the Polish American Pulaski Association, Inc of Holiday, Florida join me in expressing our sincere sympathy on the passing of the the Great One, Eddie Blazonczyk, Sr. Eddie brought happiness in his music and singing to so many including hundreds of fans here at the Pulaski Club. As former Chicago folks we grew up with many great polka stars and Eddie was on top. May he rest in peace and play that "Polish" music for all the angels to enjoy. Ernie Stetz, President of the Pulaski Association.
To Tish, Eddie, Jr., Kathy and Tony....
To me Eddie was the leader of our genre, a great inspiration and a great friend. The Versatones were the standard all polka bands tried to emulate. I will always feel extremely fortunate to have been around during his entire polka career, anxiously awaiting the latest recording, enjoying the playing engagements in our area and eventually being able to share the stage on many occasions. And I will always be grateful for the times when Eddie would allow me to sit in with the band on clarinet for the honky sets. These are memories I will keep with me the rest of my life. May you rest in peace, Polka Hero.
With much love....
I started dancing to Eddie B in the 60s at Edgewood Gardens in Corunna, Mi. We were all around 17 at the time. I would get 4 couples in my 1961 Chevy convertible and we would head out on a Saturday night for dancing. It was a great time. I can't wait to see Eddie in Polka Heaven.
My parents loved Eddie and I grew to love his music as well. I belonged to the Milwaukee Eddie B. Fan Club, and continued to enjoy the band with Eddie Jr. at the helm. Condolences to the family. We will all miss Eddie. Thanks for the memories.
The polka world has lost one of the best, and he will be truly missed. Eddie may be gone but his music will go on forever. We will all miss you Eddie, rest in peace.
My sympathy goes out to the Blazonczyk family. His music made everyone happy, and we will treasure the memories.

Eddie B, Thanks for the memories!
My condolences to Tish, Kathy, Junior & Tony, and all polka fans
Dear Tish & Family
I have a lot of memories of Eddie, way back to when he first came to the dance with Marion Lush at Coal AC in Greensburg. Thru the years I have enjoyed his music and especially his beautiful voice.
When my husband, Joe Obbagy was living, we would travel to all the different dances just to hear Eddie's great music.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Our family condolences go out to Edward Blazonczyk's family and friends as well as do our prayers for him and his family.
I feel blest for the opportunity to speak with Eddie about two weeks ago and recall our childhood friendship of 65 years. His mother and my mother were roommates when they came to Chicago from Poland. When I first met Eddie his mom had a beautiful dining establishment on 17th and South Ashland Avenue. We played in and around this building.
I remember our family visiting with his mom, dad and sister in their home where Eddie's dad brought out and arranged some early phonograph recording equipment for Eddie's sister to actually cut a record in the late 40's.
I wasn't quite certain of how all this was happening but it sure caught my attention. I guess it caught Eddie even more.
Eddie was fluent in Polish and liked to sing. As we got to know each other he began to express his desires to form a band and to play music for a living.
Eddie was a person filled with a lot of vitality. He seemed to always exhibit a keen and genuine interest in the person with whom he spoke. He liked to have people feel good and laugh.
As we grew older I saw Eddie and his Versatones playing at a hall on south Archer Avenue. Now Blazonczyk was doing what he wanted ā making people happy and dancing to his joyful singing and music. It was nice to see that dreams can be accomplished.
His dad and my dad were also close friends from the town of Chocholow in Poland.
They kept their friendship alive throughout their new lives on the south side of Chicago.
During the many following years school and work kept our family out of town and away from friends and relatives in Chicago for a great deal of the time, so it was an honor and a delightful reconnection to recently speak with Eddie.
Our hope is that Edward A. Blazonczyk's love, goodness and vitality continue to permeate his family and friends. Also that Eddie may bring the fullness of his being that he so lovingly acquired in this life to his new home.
Góralu wracaj do hal!
Our sympathy goes out to the Blazonczyk Family he will be greatly missed. Bob and Mary Ann Verhoeve [Hebron Indiana]

You won't remember me because I am one of thousands of people who thought your dad was a mentor to all musicians through-out the polka field. Your band played a dance in Lansing Ohio. I was at the dance and got a ticket at the door for a prize if chosen. I won, and you guys shared the bottle with me.
I play accordion in a polka band back in the Maynard, St.Clairsville area. Your dad has been one of the reasons I chose to do this type of music. I am 60 now and grew up with mary lou as well as poor boy, an Charlotte Ann. Eddie Sr. you will be sadly missed at the dances, but I think you have created a following that will never die.

one of the best, great voice and music he will be missed by all who listened to his music may god bless and keep him

When I walked through the doors of the Lakewood Ballroom in Barnesville, PA in the early 1970's it was love at first sound. It was there that I heard the most incredible voice of polka music and you became my polka hero. Through the years I followed you to dances and festivals where friends would gather to drink and party and polka through the night. How devastated I was when I heard you fell ill and retired from performing. I have missed your magnificent voice and now that you are gone I will forever cherish the memories through my videos and photos taken throughout a wonderful journey. I'm thankful to have known you and for being a part of the great polka era of which you were king. No one will ever come close to taking your place. The crowd is now gathering at the gates of heaven to hear your golden voice once more. Rest in peace my dear Eddie B.
Tish and Family,
So sorry to hear about Eddie. Your're in my prays.

I will never forget the first time I saw him perform. He was the best and there never will be anyone like him. My condolences to you Tish and family

My deepest sympathies to the Blazonczyk family. What a great man he was...Leaving behind an extraordinarily large legacy! He will be greatly missed. Know that your family is in my prayers.
My deepest sympathy Tish, Kathy, Ed Jr., Tony & all the family.
Everyone has a story to tell about Eddie, he touched so many lives in so many ways. I think he can best be described as a talented, loving, good- natured and honorable man.
I was about 10 yrs. old when Eddie became part of our family...it was a very big deal. Now, as all teens did back in the day, I faithfully watched American Bandstand. At 16, I got my first official job as receptionist at Bel-Aire on 47th Street in the Back of the Yards. Imagine my amazement to see pictures of Eddie Bell & the Bel-Aires on AB, along with autograped pictures the likes of Buddy Holly framed on the office walls of my new boss...awesome!
Saturdays at Bel-Aire could get pretty crazy, especially with the radio program live from Ed's office. Fans would gather in the record store to watch him live through the glass window. Teachers in the side rooms giving students music lesson. Customers shopping for a new polka album. Wally running up and down filling orders to be shipped. Throw in some action in the recording studio, whether Versatones or bands from across the country...anything could happen and usually did.
Or Bel-Aire Days, in the heat of July at Polonia, when there still was a Grove. At the end of a long day of hard work & play...silliness would prevail. Who could forget the chance to dunk their favorite musician in the 'dunk tank'.
Whether at the store or on the grove, Eddie would give me directions on what he expected of me and it always ended with a wink and a "capisce?"
"No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave." ~ Calvin Coolidge
Eddie Sr. you will be missed, capisce?

As my brother, FRANK KUBOWSKI,called to inform me of your Father's passing (at far too early an age) there was a quite loss in his voice. Frank grew up idolizing your Father and was so fortunate to play along side him in later years. It was truely one of the proud joys in his life. He raises his 9 year old daughter, Sequoya, with the "true Polka music" your Father represents! You can always tell when Frank is driving in the garage as you hear the EDDIE BLAZONCZYK POLKAS on his CD player in the car and on the Sunday rides with Seqouya! He will truely be missed in the Wisconsin Polka world. Hopefully you continue to share his music and your's with the people to enjoy and dance to.

Then we went downstairs to some good Polish food and music. Good times I'll always remember. Eddie grew up on 47th--like a lot of us. May Father Rich and Eddie rest in God's peace.
