The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

What a man! What a life, What a legacy!

May the comfort of God sustain the entire Mitchell Family during this difficult time.

Condolences from
Gayle Mitchell

I loved working at Pirate's Beach and visiting with George. He would come to the sales office with crab traps on top of his caddy and give us pep talks. Galveston and Texas has lost a great son. Deepest sympathy to his family

MY FIRST JOB OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AT AGE 17 WAS AT "CHRISTIE, MITCHELL AND MITCHELL" THERE WERE 35 EMPLOYEES AT THAT TIME. I HAD THE HONOR TO WORK FOR THE COMPANY FOR 10 YEARS. I MET MY HUSBAND THERE. WHAT A FANTASTIC WAY TO START A CAREER. I LEFT THE COMPANY TO BECOME A FULL TIME MOM. THE MITCHELL FAMILY ARE PRECIOUS PEOPLE. I USED TO BABY SIT GRAND-DADDY MITHCELL WHEN CHRISTIE MITCHELL WOULD BRING HIM TO SEE JOHNNY AND GEORGE. WHAT PRECIOUS MEMORIES I HAVE OF THAT TIME IN MY LIFE. WHAT AN EXAMPLE WE HAD TO FOLLOW, OUR LEADERS WERE THE ULTIMATE, NOT ONLY AS EMPLOYERS, BUT FATHERS WITH STRONG FAMILY VALUES, AND JUST GOOD PEOPLE. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 54 YEARS AND RETURNED TO THE GALVEZ HOTEL FOR OUR 50TH. WE ARE SAD THAT WE MISSED GEORGE BY AN HOUR THAT DAY. THANK YOU GEORGE MITCHELL FOR THE INFLUENCE YOU HAD ON OUR LIVES. I WAS THINKING ABOUT SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT WORKED THERE: BENNETT YOUNG, JOYCE GAY, PEGGY LEWIS, JIM HARRISON, OSCAR BRUMMETT, WONDERFUL PEOPLE. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. My deepest sympathy to the entire Mitchell family on the loss of their loved one. I did not know Mr. Mitchell but from what I have read in recent days about him,(the obit was awesome) Texas has truly lost a "Great Man", with all his wealth he never forgot his humble beginnings and set such a great example of how we should live our lives, helping those in need and giving back to the community. This world is certainly a better place for having George Mitchell pass through it and will be for many generations to come. May his soul rest in peace in God's loving care and he enjoy his heavenly reward he so richly deserves. God Bless and Thank You, Mr. Mitchell!
