I met Maj Gene Duncan at OCS while I was a Platoon Cmdr. We became friends that day for the next 22 years. I invited him to come speak to every unit I was in and I learned so much from him everytime we met. He also made me laugh everytime with his Marine Stories!!! He was a straight shooter 24/7 and told it like it is. He was the best mentor anyone could ever have. I think about him every day! I still have his beautiful Border Collie named "Tri-Pod" as she is a 3 legged dog! Tripod is still alive but getting very old now. He would take her with him on road trips visiting bases all over the US and tripod would sleep on the floor in front of the passenger seat. Everytime I open the Car door she looks in there to see if her master is in there waiting to take her on a trip! I think when Tripod passes someday she will find Gene up there at the gates of heaven!!! God Bless you Uncle Gene!!!

No doubt in my mind that every morning there's a formation measuring in the 10's of thousands inside the Pearly Gates with one Major Gene "Dunc" Duncan passing the word. STILL sorely missed but NEVER forgotten. Marine, Man, Friend. This site stays up as long as I'm able to support it.

I had the honor and privilege of meeting Major Duncan in 1963 and remained in contact off and on since and had the honor of visiting him numerous times while he was in is finale charge. I saluted the Major since 1963 and continue to salute him for he was a Marine's Marine. He stood for the Corps. He continues to remain with me until I make my final charge and am in hopes after to meet him and Gunner (Captain) Moore. Semper Fi

I will continue to honor the legacy of this man, this Marine, my friend by extending the guest book another year so that those who are so inclined can post or read about this remarkable individual. He is STILL missed.

As many as indicated you will not be forgotten. Your written word and humorous truths brought many a smile and thoughts to all who served. When you took the time to visit me and my Marine Detachment on USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) back in 1990 prior to deployment to DS/DS was greatly appreciated. I think he personally signed all books for each of the MarDet members. His inspirations will always be with us. Semper Fidelis.

He was my division Officer back around 76/77 in Okinawa. He took a few of us Sailor with some of his Marines to drive tanks up at Camp Schwab. One of he best leaders I ever met

So very many Marines and Docs continue to miss you Dunc. You are NOT forgotten and live on daily in our memories. Your sound advice and keen sense of humor has pulled many of us thru some very trying times. And thanks to SgtMaj Grant Beck for his kind and professional gesture in keeping this site open. Will buy him a cold one at SywanykS as we stand near your favorite bar stool Gene...would never think of sitting on it!!!! Semper Fi to all.

You are not forgotten but missed. You were a man of integrity, a man of principle, a man determined to serve others and to teach many, you were and always will be a Marine. Semper Fi
