BARRINGTON—Joseph Michael Lamontagne, 56, of 26 Laura Lane, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover after a period of failing health.
Born November 12, 1955 in Rochester. He was the son of the late Louis Lamontagne and Ruth (Crisp) Lamontagne Saucier.
Joe was a great man and father, he had a free spirit and he was loved by everyone. He was a really generous guy and would give the shirt off his back if you asked him too. He was a Red Cross Hero of the Year recipient for rescuing two children from a burning building. He loved his daughters and grandson; they were the light of his life. Joe served in the U.S. Marines and was an artist with wood and a master craftsman. He also loved fishing, had a passion for playing the guitar, and the outdoors. He was fondly known as "Joe Fish." Joe was a friend of Bill W., and had many friends in the program. Joe will always remain in our hearts as a man who loved life by his own rules. He taught us how to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. Joe lived for each day and never worried too much about anything.
He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Lamontagne and his sister Dorothy Brock.
Members of his family include his long time friend and companion Nancy Parent of Barrington; his children, Heaven Lamontagne of Barrington, Laura Lamontagne of Gonic, and stepson Jeff Parent of Barrington; his brothers, James Lamontagne and wife Brenda of Rochester and Robert Lamontagne of West Moreland; his sister, Katherine Johnson of Arkansas; his uncle, George Crisp and wife Barbara; his aunt Mary Loring of Rochester and Aunt Florence Gilmore and husband, Arnold; his grandson, Anthony Lamontagne of Barrington.
Friends and family are invited to visit with the family Sunday, August 19, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main Street, Rochester, N.H. 03867. I was deeply saddened to see that Joe passed away. He used to play in our band. I had the best times with him and Kelly. We named our daughter after his sweet girl Heaven. I will always remember him as a kind and gentle soul.

I've known Joe since High School. I worked with Joe back in the 1970's and we became good friends. He attended my wedding and later started taking guitar lessons at my music store in Rochester. He loved playing his guitar. Joe will be missed.
