December 31, 2014

I just saw Phil Everly's death publicized in a year-end ABC video of those who died this past year. I was shocked to see his name...shown with a photo, of course, of Phil & Don performing. I am so upset that I didn't know of his passing. I am so very, very fond of their singing. One of my biggest life's thrills was seeing The Everly Brothers perform at Ravinia Park in Highland Park, Illinois back in about 1986. I will always remember how the two brothers would be talking, Don started singing, then Phil stepped up close to the microphone and their beautiful harmony began. It was "magic". . .amazing how their voices blended so perfectly. I always hoped to see and hear them again. What a wonderful, gifted musician Phil was. Don was singing...but when Phil added his voice. . . the harmony was so melodic, so beautiful. I am so sorry to hear he is no longer with us. He will always live on in my heart with the memory of their music and of that wonderful summer night at Ravinia. I have their albums...LPs...and I'm going to listen to Phil & Don's singing now. The two of them singing together was such a gift to all of us.

Peace to the family. Phil and Don were the two people responsible for awaking the love for music in me as a child.
