Until I discovered Frank McCourt, Monica Dickens had been my favourite modern-day author (great grand daughter of Charles). Frank breathed fresh air into modern literature and I devoured everything he wrote (the movie was a bonus, but it all began with his books). Who would have believed the suffering in what we considered to be enlightened times? when being poor was a scourge. His spirit prevailed and always will, through his books. Melanoma is tragically close to my family; I survived it and lost a family member to it. When it's over, it's over (as I'm sure Mr. McC would say). Here's raising a toast to you, with grateful thanks. God Bless and Godspeed. I hope your loved ones find comfort in all these tributes. The world has lost a lovely man and an unparalleled writer.
