Margaret Amedeo of Middletown, Maryland passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014 after a brave fifteen-year battle with ovarian cancer. Beloved wife of James S. Amedeo and devoted mother of Michael B. Amedeo. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Annamae (Keegan) Berkery and brother John Berkery, Jr. Survived by her brothers and sisters: Robert (Sharon) Berkery, Susan Berkery, James Berkery and Maribeth (David) Zernia. Fond daughter-in-law of Ralph and Hope Amedeo. Also survived by R. Michael (Donna) Amedeo, Sara (Ken) Sneeden, Sally (Guy) Divita. Loving aunt and great aunt of many. She will also be missed dearly by longtime friend, Carol (Paul) Jiganti and many neighbors and friends. Margie was born August 21, 1962 in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Politically active at a young age, Margie travelled the country with Ted Kennedy's 1980 presidential campaign. Soon afterwards, she became a speechwriter for future Mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley, Jr. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Elementary Education and taught in the Washington County Public School System. After the birth of her beloved son Michael, she became devoted to his Catholic education. She served as the president of the Home School Association for St. John's Regional Catholic School for three years. Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 6-8 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11 AM with Father Keith Boisvert officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to St. John's Regional Catholic School's Margie Amedeo Scholarship Fund, 8414 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702.
