He graduated from Muskegon High School in Muskegon, MI and worked as a radio announcer for over 30 years at WFRE and WFMD in Frederick and WJEJ and WWMD in Hagerstown before retiring in the fall of 2013. Sean Titus & wife Lish of Frederick; grandchildren, Melissa, Steven, Holly, Michael, Ryan, Dylan, Lexi, and Becca; a sister, Sandra Galyan & husband Virgil; and numerous nieces and nephews. Not sure what to say?

Was Jim ever a DJ in Truckee California in 65-67? I had the pleasure to have worked with a Jim Titus during my Junior and a Senior year in Truckee , California and was wondering if this was the same man. His voice was one in a million and he was such a great spirit. He looks so similar to this picture. My condolences regardless of whether this is the Jim Titus I know or your lived one.

I was lucky enough to have worked with Jim at WFRE-WFMD back in the eighties, and continued to enjoy his humor and wisdom as one of his listeners on WJEJ. All of us envied his wonderful voice, but recognized that his kindness and perspective were just as rare. Jim will be missed by all of his hundreds of radio friends and thousands of listeners.

Jim was an intelligent and gentle giant in the eyes of many in Frederick. I will never forget his music selection, in a Frederick airport hangar, for my 40th birthday! And my kids just loved him. His knowledge of the music and radio industry needs to be recorded at the museum of broadcasting in DC. I am sure he and Jim Gibbons are discussing all the trials and tribulations of radio life, and I know Mike Gibbons sends his condolences also. We were truly blessed to have been a part of his life. Our sincere condolences Doris.

I've worked in several broadcast outlets, from college radio to the NBC Networks in New York. Not only was he a great guy, he was hands down the best announcer with whom I have ever been privileged to work. God speed, my friend. God's peace be with you, Doris and family.

Doris..So sorry to hear of Jim passing. Had just talked to him a few weeks ago while passing thru Hagerstown to Fredrick for a doctor's appointment. Jim and I go back to the early Cumberland days of WKYR. 1967. Worked together for several years and enjoyed my time with "Johnny Dark".. Sure wish I had followed up on getting together with him for lunch or something. Rest in peace Jim...Your friend, Marty White, Cumberland

Jim, you were such a pleasure to work with and know as a person. We were sometimes on the air at the same time, Jim on WFRE and me on WFMD in the early 80s. He put up with my shenanigans and often lent his massive voice to some of the "shtick" I used to do. How many times I thought "Wow, how I wish I could sound like that!" But mostly I remember the times I'd go into the studio behind me and we'd just have an enjoyable chat about almost anything. You were so lucky, Frederick, to have also had him as a friend. God bless.

I will always think of Jim as "John Dark," because that was his radio name at WKYR in Keyser, WV. He was very generous to me as a kid hoping for a career in radio--even gave us records and jingles for our campus station at the WV School for the Blind. Did not know he had retired, and just this week tried to reach him at WJEJ to let him know we are starting a new LPFM station here in Keyser. His influence lives on! . . . Oh, the things we wish we had taken time to say. Ed McDonald, Keyser, WV [email protected]

Jim was great guy to work with. I was one of his fellow morning creatures here at WFMD and WFRE. He was not only knowledgeable about music, but a lot of other topics. I was told he was a voracious reader. Jim also had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

Jim will always be Mr. Titus to me. I can say without hesitation that I would not be where I am today were it not for his kindness, patience, and assistance. His towering presence was exceeded only by his qualities as a person. When I was 15, he helped me to embark upon a broadcast career that eventually spanned more 30 years. When I lost my Dad at 17, Jim was a fatherly presence without even trying to be. Throughout my life - despite gaps of time and many miles - he was a wonderful mentor and friend. I hope he was proud of the young man whose life he helped to shape in many ways. Doris, I pray that you and your entire family will find some comfort and joy in these expressions. It was always clear - even in my memories as a kid - how much he cherished you and his children. Peace, blessings, and comfort to you all now and always.

As a former co-worker, I always remember how smart he was. He always knew so many facts about everything, and was such a positive person. Very sorry for your loss.

I remember when I worked with Jim at WFMD/WFRE. We had just switched formats and Jim told me a professional plays the music the listener enjoys not what you enjoy. He was a wise man and everyone that met him loved him. He will be missed by all.
