George J. Avila of Kingsburg, Ca., passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at age 87. He was born in Hanford, Ca. to Joe C. and Louise Avila in February 1926. George was the seventh of 16 children. George was co-owner of a dairy in Laton with his brother-in-law, Clarence Madruga before serving in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. After the service, he farmed with his brothers Edward and Fernando. In 1955 George married the love of his life, Mary Madruga of Hanford, Ca. They were married for 58 years. In 1962 they bought a ranch near the Kings River in Kingsburg, Ca. where he was a devout member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. George loved to play his guitar and harmonica for the Saturday services. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and I.D.E.S. Lodge. George's favorite pastime was the peacefulness of hoeing in his garden and watching his fruits & vegetables grow. The abundance of the garden was always shared with his family, friends and neighbors. George was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Blodgett; his parents, Joe C. and Louise Avila; brothers, Joe, S.J., Edward, Tommy and Fernando Avila; sisters, Ida Madruga, Louise Seames, Theresa Fagundes, Lucy Leal and Bernadette Briaco. George is survived by Mary, his wife; his son Stephen and and his wife Kim; daughters, Liz and Tony Brady, Jennifer and Dave Lawrence; brothers, Paul and James Avila; sisters Sr. Corinne Avila, Dolores Garoogian, Lena Verdegaal and Josephine Sweet; grandchildren, Jake Blodgette, William Avila, Amber Silva, Brittney and Dylan Brady, and D.J. and Jason Lawrence; and his great-grandchildren, Blake and Justin Avila, Tysin, Katlin, Brooklin and Carson Silva; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held at Creighton Memorial Chapel, 1588 Lincoln Street, Kingsburg Ca. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1275 Smith Street, Kingsburg, Ca. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, March 22 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Creighton Memorial Chapel, 1588 Lincoln Street, Kingsburg, California (559)897-2908
