Funeral services for Deacon JT Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, East Gadsden, the Rev. Henry Sterling officiating. Burial in Lincoln Hill Cemetery.
Deacon JT Johnson Sr. was born November 16, 1944, to the late Jabe Johnson and Christine Johnson-Garland in Cherokee County.
He confessed Christ at an early age and until his death was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, East Gadsden, Ala.
He graduated from Hachett High School in Centre, Ala. He received several degrees from Birmingham Southern Bible College.
He married Lila Edwards and to this union two children were born, JT Johnson Jr. and Kemely Johnson.
JT retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with 34 years of service. He was fondly known as "Leroy" by his coworkers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jabe Johnson; and his little sister, Sophia Loretta Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories, Elizabeth Johnson (and her entire extended family); mother, Christine Johnson-Garland; children, Kemely (Daryl) Johnson-Hatchett, JT Johnson Jr., Eva Deon (Stephen) Isom; special niece/daughter, Sophia (Giovanni) Patrick; brothers, JB Johnson, Elliot Johnson and Anthony Johnson; special aunt and uncle, Perry Stallings and Pearline Stallings-Dixon; loves of his life, Destiny, Micheal, Mya, Janea, Whitney, Jeremy, all his great grandchildren, and his beloved cat "Kristie." There are several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who are too many to mention.
